As I just reported for @ms.now yesterday, they were charged w/ blocking entrances to abortion clinics, harassing & injuring staff & livestreaming some of it.
Trump freed them from federal prison; 3 have been re-arrested since.
Now, the DOJ is using the same law to go after a journalist.
🚨Don Lemon is being charged under the FACE Act, which has historically been used to prosecute those who impede access to abortion clinics. But it also criminalizes interference @ houses of worship.
Days into 2nd term, Trump pardoned 24 anti-abortion activists convicted under FACE 🧵
Fantastic reporting from @juliannemcshane.bsky.social here, and a warning shot about the future of abortion clinic protests: Trump's pardons have only emboldened the most aggressive fringe elements of street level activism.
"We're going to disrupt this country as much as we can."
NEW @ms.now: Anti-abortion activists pardoned by Trump for invading clinics are joining a new effort led by Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry to revive mass clinic protests.
I spent some time with them in DC last week. “We’re going to disrupt this country as much as we can," one said. 🧵
Alex Pretti’s dad: “He cared about people deeply & was very upset with what was happening...He thought it was terrible, you know, kidnapping children, just grabbing people off the street. He cared about those people, he knew it was wrong, so he did participate in protests” apnews.com/article/immi...

It’s a coordinated campaign and it’s worth noting.

Frey: I'm done being told that our local elected officials are solely responsible for turning down the temperature. Yesterday we saw 15,000 people peacefully protesting in the streets, speaking out, standing up for their neighbors. Not a single broken window, not a single injury.

Dozens of federal agents are facing off with hundreds of outraged residents. People being tear gassed, helicopters above, I keep hearing pops, and lots of loud BANGS.
This smoke is from tear gas:
Federal agents shot at civilians in their cars at least 15 times since July. We tracked each case.
In every instance, feds claimed drivers tried to ram agents.
But the claim often falls apart under scrutiny.

DHS spokesperson asking why critics are defending sex offenders.
ICE used a warrantless forced entry to arrest a US citizen with no criminal record. Rather than acknowledge error, they smeared the family, saying they were harboring sex offenders and critics were defending sex offenders.
Turns out that one of their targets was already in jail. ICE never checked.

That’s true, but where some people might be able to keep mental distance from those stories, this one features a photo of a child, scared, in the moment. Just absolute nightmare fuel

Since ICE arrived in Minneapolis over a month ago, people have mobilized across the city to a stunning degree to track agents and monitor their activities.
@wsj.com went there to understand what this looks like in practice.

DHS has identified two people its agents shot in Portland on Thursday. The agency claims they're Venezuelans who entered the U.S. illegally and have "suspected" ties to the Tren de Aragua crime syndicate.
Interestingly, DHS *didn't* say whether they'd be detained or charged with a crime.
DHS claims the Portland shooting victims "weaponized" their car against agents, like in Minneapolis.
Also claimed one is a "Venezuelan illegal alien affiliated with the Tren de Aragua prostitution ring," but didn't ID the person or provide further details.

a video taken by the eyewitness, Emily Heller, shows agents denying a self-identified physician access to the victim and telling bystanders to “just relax.”
“How can I relax? You just killed my fucking neighbor,” Heller responded. “How the fuck do you show up to work every day?”
