Photo of large colony of Rhizocarpon lichen, with pale yellow and black dots, on gray rock.
Small patch of rhizocarpon lichen colony on whitish quartz, with yellow and black spots, and dark lines stretching out in river-like lines on the quartz. Roughly the shape of India? Antarctica? A reverse of the Horn of Africa?
8-12. Rhizocarpon geographicum (or related lichens in the same complex) was everywhere, often delightfully contrasting on white quartz and granite. Real map energy on some of these.
