So yeah, I guess you could say the Bible is my favorite book.

I’d probably select the Philokalia as #2.

I do not worship the Bible, I am not an inerrantist, but the degree to which my worldview is informed by the Bible and interpretations of the Bible is undeniable.

I have more translations of the Bible than any other book I own, and my entire library would practically not exist apart from the Bible.

I want to give the answer that, despite objections and cringe-worthy interpretations, I cannot help but say the Bible is my favorite book. I’ve read it more than any other book, it has captivated my attention for years.

My wife asked me, “What’s your favorite book?”

This gave me pause. Often people will say, “What’s your favorite book other than the Bible?” The way this a framed is funny because of its presuppositions.

No doubt we ought to labor in love for our neighbors and the whole world. But how will our wills be converted to love if not through prayer? I may very well stand in front of my enemy, but I will be hard pressed to love him unless I am moved by God's love, having prayed for him first.

This is not the vocation only of monastics, but of the whole church. This is evidenced by the petitions of the litanies in the Divine Liturgy, not to mention the admonitions in Paul's Epistle to Timothy.
