For discussions related to #EUDR, whether in the context of mapping (earth observation) or traceability.

Let's grow this community and let me know who would like to be added!

3/3 Events like these are critical for fostering collaboration across sectors, sharing cutting-edge insights, and driving actionable strategies to combat #deforestation and promote #sustainable #landuse.

If youโ€™re attending, feel free to reach outโ€”Iโ€™d love to connect!

2/3 Iโ€™ll be particularly engaged in the session on Knowledge Exchange on #Forest Monitoring for Transparent Commodity #ValueChains, such as #EUDR. This discussion aligns closely with my work on leveraging #remotesensing to enhance transparency and accountability in commodity supply chains.

Title of session โ€œB002
Advancements in Wildland Fire Management and Engagement: Integrating Earth Observation Technologies and Open Collaborative Developmentโ€

and abstract is โ€œWildland fires pose significant challenges to communities, ecosystems, and economies worldwide. Balancing their negative impacts with their positive benefits requires innovative approaches that leverage cutting-edge technologies while fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders. This session proposes a comprehensive exploration of advancements in wildland fire management, monitoring, and modeling by integrating Earth observation technologies and collaborative development efforts. We will highlight innovative approaches that foster cross-boundary, multi-jurisdictional collaborations among tribal, local, federal, and international partners. For example, efforts like Canadaโ€™s WildFireSat mission, NASA FireSense, the Pyregence Consortium, and the internationally funded GOFC-GOLD Fire Mapping and Monitoring Implementation Team are creating transformative wildland fire science, data products, and tools built on relationships and knowledge exchange. By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, we aim to advance the science and practice of wildland fire management while enhancing the resilience of communities and ecosystems in the face of increasing wildfire risk and lengthening fire seasons.

5/5 This article, published by GIZ, explores #forest monitoring solutions shaped by EUDR compliance to foster a shared understanding among stakeholders such as #supplychain partners and service providers. It also offers valuable insights for regulators reviewing due diligence statements.

4/5 In light of this, I would like to highlight an excellent publication in which we participated, brought to you by DIASCA (Digital Integration of Agricultural Supply Chains Alliance). The report examines the technological challenges and existing solutions for #LkSG, #EUDR, and #CSDDD.

21.11.2024 11:32 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

3/5 Furthermore, many companies already claimโ€”through voluntary #ESG agreements or reportsโ€”that they monitor and track their supply chains. This potential postponement is undoubtedly a green light for yet another year of #deforestation.

2/5 Itโ€™s worth noting that the European Commission first signaled its intention to regulate #deforestation linked products back in 2019. Yes, 2019! Now, in 2024, operators and traders have had several years to adapt to this regulation.

1/5 After all this debate over the European Commission's proposal to delay the EU Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR), I find myself still reading through various reactions from small producers, large agribusiness companies, and governments.

3/3 HR imagery provides the detail needed to support accurate #mapping of commodity, helping us distinguish between actual natural forest and tree-crop #commodities like coffee. By combining #multiple datasets, rather than relying on a single source, we improve accuracy.
