greatest movie of all time

the final insult of AI is going to be forcing us all to become linux guys. we're all going to be like oh yeah downloading stuff on linux is super easy you just juice the tarball and compile the pulp in the sudo command line. not like windows where you have to click on things

Iโ€™ve been using it for Spanish since this past winter, and the decline in quality since the inclusion of AI is striking. The things itโ€™s teaching me make no sense anymore. As my best friend put it, โ€œDuolingoโ€™s goal is not to teach you a language, but to keep you using Duolingo.โ€

I mean something like 'I'll pay your tuition' would've been good but no, fifty pounds to use the printers... that's cool John...

My universityโ€™s chancellor was the actor John Hurt, who died during my third year. In his will, he stipulated that all students were to get something like ยฃ50 of free printing allowance from his estate. That was all well and good, but it was fucking useless for the film students.

Online banking and romance fraud would be cut at a stroke by a series of public information ads, mandatorily inserted between the One Show and EastEnders. We need to go back to 1970s-style and put the fear of God into people about this stuff. Online is very, very unsafe.

Right now I'm gradually piecing together a loose outline in Obsidian. You can sort of tell which bits I have more ideas about based on how many notes are jutting out of them.

I've never really known what form my robots-and-monsters story would take. For the longest time I was defaulting to a comic, but for the scope of the thing that would take WELL over a decade. At this point, I'm pretty certain it's prose.

The goal of being an artist is to make enough art of your OCs to fill a parody of the Evangelion opening.

With people dunking on the latest AI buffoon, why not check out my webcomic, which doesn't have a pixel of genAI anywhere?
And, for the record, I quite enjoy drawing it. maryelestia.webcomic.ws

In the increasingly unlikely case RTD gets to do another Doctor Who season, I wonder which obscure classic era villain he'll bring back and portray as an easily defeated CGI giant?

The schedule for the next Spider-Man film is crazy. It just started filming, yet it's out in about a year. It's going to have what, nine months of post-production? That's absurdly short for a summer blockbuster.
Me thinks a lot of CGI artists are going to have a very miserable time.

Amazing Digital Circus doesn't really do it for me. It tends to get very therapy talk-ish, and aside from that that it's one of those trendy shows where you're expected to do all the narrative legwork with incessant theorising instead of being given a real story.

Saw someone watching Rings of Power on a crowded train, on their phone with airpods in. At that moment it finally struck me, that's exactly how it's meant to be watched.
Because God knows it's fucking miserable to watch on a television.

You know, if Capcom really wanted to improve Monster Hunter Wilds' performance, there's something they could do very quickly...

Or who knows, maybe Penelope's suitors might end up somehow gaining access to a bunch of MP5s and gas masks.

Every few films, Chris Nolan gets all pent up and has to make a movie about special forces types running around randomly shooting things. Namely, The Dark Knight Rises and Tenet. I think after The Odyssey, we could be due another random-running-and-gunning flick from Chris.

I've always found Americans attitudes towards manual gearboxes odd. They act like it's some ancient, eldritch puzzle that'll get you condemned to an asylum if you think about it for too long but it's like... you change to the next one up when the engine gets loud... it's not complicated...

Funny to me that despite Man of Steel's singular dedication to being grey and angsty, this film, even as it openly embraces the more far-fetched, cartoonish elements of the comics, is a MUCH more successful and believable take on the 'Superman in the real world' premise.

I believe every great creative should have at least one total fuck up. A little ego death prevents sycophantism.
Every Shakespeare needs a Merry Wives of Windsor.

I love blender but the modern obsession of every update revolving around grease pencil and geometry nodes VEXES me. IRKS me even.

15.08.2025 02:57 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

While we're on the topic of Blender gripes, people who say it's mind blowing for 2D animation are complete...
... ly entitled to that opinion...
Grease pencil revolves entirely around tricking it into doing absolutely anything you want; you can never just DO something.
Really buggy, too.

Frankly I've yet to really be impressed by geometry nodes; they just don't seem to have much practical application that wasn't already achievable through other means. I think the feature mainly exists to have incomprehensible hour long tutorials made about them.

15.08.2025 02:49 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Every few months a bunch of hack YouTubers post videos called something along the lines of 'Blender just CHANGED EVERYTHING forever' and 20 minutes later they just reveal that it's added another arbitrary doodad to the geometry nodes system.
