I use this example all the time when speaking about sovereign territories and the fact that from an international law perspective, Indigenous land is not state land in the American context.

New York State is going to be paying up, very soon.

Which was "winter bad. Can't bike."? Lol. Well the Finnish kids and I will enjoy. Shame you are missing out

See video below 77 percent of people in Oulu bike, 50 percent of those still bike in the winter including children

Why? Because it has good bike infrastructure. It is easier to bike in Stockholm and Oulu than Miami! Why? Good bike infrastructure. So this idea that winter is a barrier is just not the case

Alright you want a real conversation on this? Biking in the winter isn't an issue! Ohio gets plenty of snowy days and has almost no bike infrastructure, and I still find low traffic routes to get around.

But here are some real examples - it is easier to bike in Montreal than here in the winter!

That is clearly exactly what I said! Fascinating weather patterns we have here!

Well do you want - I'll keep enjoying biking in the winter.

Depends vastly on the class of ebike. Class 1 and 2s are limited to 20mph. Not as safe as a standard bike but hardly as fast as a motorcycle. I am with you on stricter regulations for higher speed ebikes

The education campaign should be the faster heavier vehicle should always give way to the more vulnerable user. I sometimes ride on sidewalks for my own safety, but will always dismount and give way for pedestrians.

I have commuted in Ohio year round on a bike. It is fine. Never have worry about scrapping it off for 6 minutes before going somewhere too.

Hi @npr.org! We worked late tonight putting together this handy pocket guide!

It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers.

It's the size of a folded business card. Print it, fold it, put it in your wallet!

Enraging and insulting honestly - if you don't have the money for a car (or you choose not to drive for any other reason) you must be perpetually bored on your commute while drivers watch videos on their phones.

the fascinating thing with this insane anti-American revisionism of course is that the Soviet cooperation and collaboration with the Nazis was so real and so devastating it shattered the left of the time! it's ignorance of both the war and the history of your own movement disguised badly as wisdom

if we are going to have online magazines for Abundance, i think a wealthy patron should fund an online magazine for electoral reform β€” specifically for furthering the twin causes of proportional representation and democratic revival. seems like a comparatively neglected space

just monumental idiocy if they really settle for a temporary extension and nothing more. if you force a shutdown and can't get further concessions, it is what it is. but stop fucking pretending you're *fighting* anything

Dems cannot guarantee you a deal. The Trump administration could illegally withhold ACA subsidies, and you may have your premiums skyrocket anyway.

If they go through with this, I think Trump has something on Schumer or Schumer wants Trump to rule us like a king. What could possibly be the alternative? He can't be that naive.

Democrats Bet Briefly Preventing a Health Insurance Apocalypse Is Good Politics Their ask in exchange for avoiding a government shutdown is an extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies. What happens when Republicans say no?

Democrats seem to have made their decision: they want a (probably short-term) extension of ACA subsidies in exchange for passing a budget bill. In other words, they want something Republicans need in exchange for something Republicans want.
From me:

Literally the only moment of effective resistance from Dems in this entire administration was Chris Van Hollen finding a way to transform one man’s abduction into a national crisis story, and Democrats learned absolutely nothing from it and never tried it again.

This is an example of how civil society silences itself under authoritarianism. The West Point alumni group announced the award in June, and then effectively canceled it in September. No explanation, just a vague sense that they are afraid of displeasing the regime.

The president of the United States just declared war, actual military war, not a metaphorical one, on a major American city, and one governed by his political opponents.

In any other period, this would be impeachment-worthy.
