Washoe Tribe secures 10,274 acres in Sierra Nevada homelands The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California acquired 10,274 acres northeast of Lake Tahoe in the largest tribal land return ever completed in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Another win for #LANDBACK! The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California acquired 10,274 acres of their ancestral homelands in California. The Tribe was forcibly removed from these lands during the state-funded “extermination” of California Natives in the 1850s.
