Update to https://scienceimpacts.org to include terminated grants
Major update to #SCIMaP visualization of impacts of cuts to federally supported health research. Map now includes information on future economic losses (impact of proposed reduction of NIH IDC to 15%) and current economic losses (impact of terminated NIH grants).

Congrats to @nephrin.bsky.social for knocking another thesis chapter out of the ballpark!
And just like 99% of all modern science, we couldn't have done this without federal support, so we thank NIH and DoD. π°
Full paper is available here: authors.elsevier.com/a/1l7aP1SPTB... and as always the whole code including annotation and the training data is available on our GitHub or on Zenodo: zenodo.org/records/1527...

American scientific enterprise, modern world order and democracy may be in peril but our @biophysj.bsky.social paper is coming out, so we felt compelled to share before everything implodes.

On top of all grant cancellations, there is this.
We should probably remind folks that while the presidents may be immune per SCOTUS, pretty much everyone else can be prosecuted for this clearly illegal move.
Everyone 6 months and older is eligible to get a flu vaccine.
It makes no sense to restrict Covid vaccines to only people who have specific medical conditions.
The FDA is basing its decisions on politics, not science.
Interview with @baym.lol lays out eloquently: how his work serves the public and how devastating weaponizing federal grants is. Couldn't have said it any better. Everyone should listen.
17.05.2025 20:07 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I am thinking a lot today about how heavy things feel in my world of faculty doing scientific research. There's the immediate chaos and panic about our ability to pay people and continue our research. But there's also a deeper grief at watching everything get bulldozed for no reason

Thanks to Congresswoman @delauro.house.gov.
One needs to remind her that she is free to have relationships with any and all farmers, and to pet any and all cows, or do both at the same time.
Just don't try to feed raw milk to children.

NSF Grant Termination Information Collection Form Please use this form to submit information identifying specific NSF grants that have been cancelled for any reason after January 20, 2025. We are tracking these grants to increase transparency, organize affected PIs, and facilitate responses, including via litigation. Please share the form as widely as possible with your networks. We are actively building a pipeline to organize these terminations and will soon have a tracker akin to our NIH grant tracker at https://airtable.com/appjhyo9NTvJLocRy/shrNto1NNp9eJlgpA WE WILL NOT DISCLOSE THE IDENTITY OF ANYONE WHO USES THIS FORM TO PROVIDE INFORMATION. We will keep your identity confidential. These resources are maintained by Noam Ross of rOpenSci and Scott Delaney of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, with input and support from additional volunteers. For any questions, please contact Scott Delaney on Signal (sdelaney.84). THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE!
π¨Report your NSF grant terminations! π¨
We are starting to collect information on NSF grant terminations to create a shared resource as we have for NIH. The more information we collect, the more we can organize, advocate, and fight back! Please share widely!

For those of you who may be unaware: NIH, the biggest funder of biomedical research on the planet, has not made any new funding decisions since January 21 because it needs to hold meetings that are declared on the Federal Register. No meetings = no funding.
