What a great pleasure to have @marionicodemi.bsky.social here in Göttingen talking on phase transitions in the nucleus of the cells.

Not the submission process, not reviewer #2, not the editor. Writing the abstract of the paper is often a far greater challenge. And there’s one simple reason for that: most people have a hard time figuring out what’s important for the reader. I ‘ll be sharing tips in next posts - stay tuned!

In strong agreement- I think the multiple meanings makes using the word a minefield but it is … a widely used word in science and beyond. Plus 1 or 2 intergenerational transmission being different from trans generational (for me 3 or more generations for mammals) is a complex “nuance”

2- I feel that people shouldn’t be annoyed talking about “epigenetics” and a refresh every now an then probably is not bad 🤣 I don’t see any concern to the study of @jamiehackett.bsky.social that indeed is very nice… mainly the fight should point other fronts where epigenetic goes very South!!!👇🏽

1- It’s a terrible word?… certainly periodically triggers some discussion among scientist, which is not bad x se… because it helps (in theory) to align concepts among colleagues. Semantics is a realm often associated to pedantic people… but using words correctly help the discussion. -follows-

Fathers shape embryonic development through molecular ‘signatures’. Credits: Daniela Velasco/EMBL

New research from EMBL Rome shows how paternal environment prior to conception can shape early embryo development.

These findings are a step toward understanding the mechanism of epigenetic inheritance, opening up new possibilities for disease prevention.

I was just wondering how was it possible that discussions on “epigenetics” terminology did’t really light up on BlueSky… but… here U go! So we got a whole package, a beautiful study and a great tread of discussions stemming from it!
All the best to everyone!
