I heard a rumor that it was dodging a Little Caesars truck when this happened.

Just a typical childless cat dad married to a childless cat lady. Los Angeles (Koreatown) resident. Originally from Buchannon, WV and Killbuck, OH (my parents had a thing for Bucks apparently).
I heard a rumor that it was dodging a Little Caesars truck when this happened.
04.08.2025 04:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think I might start calling socks, sooks from now on.
04.08.2025 01:08 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I am willing to bet like all dense neighborhoods we give more to the city's coffers than the richer neighborhoods. But I don't have that data so I am just a stranger on the internet bullshitting.
K-Town can be true 15-minute city. Make walking safer and more pleasant.
Sorry if I am repeating myself - but the frustrating thing about all of this as a K-Town resident is that they are approving a lot of apartments and office conversions (this is good), but don't seem to be actually improving anything.
They should be making this a walkers/biking paradise but won't.
You would think that Angelenos being out in the rain was proof enough that people wanted this.
03.08.2025 18:38 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I get it, we won't pull an Amsterdam, but at least work towards it.
And for the car-centric people, this would improve the driving experience. I hate trying to make right hand turns on Wilshire-Normandie around rush hour. A scramble would improve my experience as a driver and a pedestrian.
The city is more than happy to approve all of the new construction and office to APT conversions but don't seem keen to spend money and effort to actually improve the neighborhood.
K-Town is only going to get more and more people so this won't be the last tragedy.
Not to take away from a tragedy and talk about my own pet issue. but how do we even push the city to install scrambles or improve crossings?
Wilshire-Western and Wilshire-Normandie have the Purple/D line stations. I honestly think a scramble would make those intersections safe for EVERYONE.
The food court is one of the best food courts (if you like Korean food). You know it's good because you have cross-section of ages.
The fried chicken place and the tonkatsu place are highly recommended.
I hope they don't modernize it. I like the retro look.
As Koreatown resident. It feels like LA ignores that plenty of people WALK in this area.
I wonder if a scramble will help the busier pedestrian areas (Wilshire Western and Normandie).
I've had too many near hits with people turning right. And as a driver, I find it stressful making rights turns.
It's not just dumb rural folk that this fear infects.
I've met suburban Californians afraid of my part of LA (7-10% white in my neighborhood).
I have to explain that most dangerous thing in my neighborhood is cars turning right and dog shit (no, it's usually not human)
Obviously, this is anecdotal, but as a white guy from a rural area who has since moved to cities, there is a fear of cities among a certain group of crackers.
They will give BS reasons why, but if you ask me, it's because non-white people and foreigners live in cities.
I'll have to check it out - for the video thumbnail, is that a Monk- *AAAHHHHH*

01.08.2025 04:45 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ah, the Sam Vimes Economic Theory of Tow Trucks.
When you're too poor to pay for a proper tow truck, you pay twice when your car smashes into a shop.
Sysco's "School Lunch" line of frozen foods.
01.08.2025 04:13 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's kind of weird. LA could really push a NYC but without the bone chilling winters with Koreatown but won't.
I believe it's because we don't have a single council member that really represents Koreatown. Hutt represents other neighborhoods too and hasn't show interest in urbanism.
I'm sure like all dense areas, we give way more in local taxes than we receive from the city. Perhaps it's my perception. But you would think LA would invest in bike lanes, scrambles, street cleaning, and otherwise show more love to an area of city that is only going to grow.
01.08.2025 03:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Meanwhile, they are building away in my neighborhood (Koreatown). I'm sure the fact that K-Town is mostly foreign-born and non-white has nothing to do with being one of the few neighborhoods that is zoned for high rise apartments and mixed use.
01.08.2025 03:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0As a LA Koreatown resident - I can attest we have a lot of good food of high quality. Price being the biggest variable.
01.08.2025 00:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As an aside, one of my favorite "oh you don't know shit about science do you?" moments was reading one of those mommy health blogs (back in the day) that said something like, "airplanes fill their cabin with air that has less than 50% oxygen" and implied airlines were too cheap to give you more.
01.08.2025 00:31 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fake food ad:
Are you tired of Matcha being bitter and full of flavor? Do you drink your coffee extra watery?
Introducing Nitro Matcha! It's for White People (tm).
You too can be up on food trends without actually trying anything new. So you know it's safe for your cracker ass.
As much as I bitch about rent prices in LA and the NIMBYism here. LAHD is usually good about anything that is seen as dangerous.
Made a complaint to LAHD about a safety issue with my apt that wasn't fixed for 3-4 months, LAHD rep came out the next day, then it was fixed a week later.
I bet Sysco drivers are instructed to cover up the logos on their trucks when they deliver the "value" line of their frozen foods.
01.08.2025 00:10 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is probably a stupid question, but I am being sincere. Why does it seem like Tokyo, Osaka, and other major Japanese cities don't have this problem?
Is it confirmation bias on my part, or do they have fixes for this? Because it rains a LOT in Japan overall and in short periods.
Also I am glad Asterix was recommended. I never heard of it until my German raised wife told me about the series (the series was big in Europe in the 80s).
I was even thinking that you can use Asterix as a soft/light fantasy series. Not sure how you make rules over the magic potion.
Finally saw/listened to the video! I was wondering why I never heard of the series of books. I wonder how much book sellers/hobbyist stores were even pushing these?
That said, I was 16 in 98 so maybe by the time I had money and means to buy the books I wanted the series was dead?
Hopefully, they learned from the Scientolgist and remove the B&N sticker when selling them back to B&N.

30.07.2025 15:58 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What sucks about Trump/Republicans/Fossil Fuel industry misinformation campaign is that by the time people go, "Hey wait a minute." They will be dead or can just shrug and go, "What are you going to do about it Nerd?"
They know there isn't any actually consequences for them.
