Spreading a fake story about a federal elected official was a career-ending sort of thing for journalists once but since Chris Cuomo works for Nexstar they'll probably give him a raise if he promises to do it again

yesterday @davidjroth.bsky.social used the phrase β€œtheir brains were defeated by their phones” and i genuinely think we’ve lost like meaningful swaths of some generations to this

These are, truly, the exact three types of show

Picking fights is the whole game. Be mad at the right people, make any move with well-planned focus, and make sure you win.

There is nothing to gain on this one because IndyCar was involved at any level.

Do whatever you’d like with your time but a small turnout in a claimed boycott on things the series didn’t do is a bad idea. It both doesn’t help change anything (IndyCar literally did not do this!) and makes boycotts look weaker in the future.

You do not need to boycott IndyCar because ICE used a graphic with an IndyCar on it without series consent.

The questions are what the most optioned ZR1X comes out to and what the markup on top is. The gap from base 911 to GT3 RS isn't that big, but you can easily throw $200,000 in options and markup on the hood of the GT3 RS.

It's so funny when these guys are on Bluesky. Buddy that's an X The Everything App idea if ever I've seen one. What did you think people were going to say?

This should go in the Bluesky terms of service

I would agree that Miura, Stratos, and 918 are the most ambitious cars of their times, but I don't think they reach a bar of significance here to go with the rest of this top tier. Similarly, I think Valkyrie and AMG-One are the champions of today, but neither is at this level.

06.08.2025 17:46 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The 918 existed, in part, as a halo for hybrid systems in the Panamera and the Cayenne. 919, hybrid GT3 R, and 918 RSR concept were also all selling it. Mission E later grew from it. Those were odd decisions at the time! Nobody really remembers this because that's the version of history that won.

Racing is the best way to understand the entirety of the Porsche hypercar program to date:

Cancelled LMP1 car - Carrera GT - RS Spyder - 918 - 963 are a direct line of shared R&D. 919 was a completely separate line, but 918 existed as part of the same electrification narrative.

Because it was part of what has now been a 17-year marketing plan around electrification that started before McLaren road cars existed again. The plan goes back to the flywheel hybrid GT3 R. Porsche knew it would be racing hybrids at Le Mans, so it had to sell one for big money at the same time.

A better framework for this is the outright champion of ambition for an era: F40, then F1, then Veyron.

Go back further and it's a straight line from Bugattis to 300 SLs to 250 GTOs.

The Valkyrie and AMG One were both more ambitious projects than either of these, and ZR1X is, too.

The Ferrari decade car's job (being the flagship thing that Ferrari owners aspire to) has been rendered pointless by Icona Series and the McLaren decade car's heft has been erased by McLaren's modular business model.

06.08.2025 17:21 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Here comes a real hot take:

There were no big threes. McLaren put out their decade cars opposite Ferrari's decade cars in hopes of creating this news cycle. Porsche simply made two unrelated hypercars out of projects lying around.

If Chevy can bring back the Bolt, BMW should bring back the i3. (This skeet is in no way related to the fact that I recently bought a used i3.)

As end-of-empire scenarios go it is so much more dignified to get your capital city sacked by the Visigoths than to have a bunch of illiterate rich people in their 70s doing it through a series of incomprehensible tantrums because their brains were defeated by their phones.

A bad photoshop from one of dozens of incompetently-run administration social timelines is not somehow an endorsement by the series. There are enough actual bad things in IndyCar, you do not need to make new ones up.

Trump, at least, won a primary for a major party on his crank platform! RFK was polling low enough that Aaron Rodgers made the right choice to stick with the Jets at the time. This is widely detested stuff and even a healthy Republican party would say that out loud.

Of all the bad things about the Trump administration, this is the one least related to Trump's own platform. He simply wedged this on in the closing months to attract a different guy's army of different anti-fact cranks.
