Australian state bans DIY e-bikes on trains, permits manufactured models
Australian state New South Wales has got its head around the difference between a DIY e-bike and a manufactured product,
It is possible to differentiate between DIY e-bikes and manufactured e-bikes, so says the Australian state of New South Wales, which has now banned DIY from its trains, all the while still encouraging manufactured e-bikes.

Providing specifically for cycling seems totally absent from Hackney's delivered schemes in the past few years. At best it is tolerated.

@sarahwoodberrydown.bsky.social hi- FYI the Chatsworth Road camera has been knocked off angle (it's now pointing at the sky) - there's an adjacent cctv camera on Clifden Road so probably possible to identify the vandals that did it.

All fair points, and tbh I don't expect anything innovative out of Hackney at all based on current form, though I'd love to be surprised by the Dalston LTN. Don't you want the already established dominance of cycle numbers over motors for a cycle st? Are there any that spring to mind in Newham?

This is an incredibly powerful way to frame your argument. It got me a few years ago via a Greta T speech to the UN: "My grandchildren one day will ask me about YOU (room full of powerful old men)". Not that I have much in common with them, but I quit my job and went to work for a local authority

Every morning I wake up and see various bits of horrific news from the US, and the Manics' "If you tolerate this, your children will be next" pings into my head.

Wait, aren't the incentives of "because it's the right thing to do" or "it might save this or even another child's life" enough??

Great piece. My pedantry has bested me apologies... You've fallen into the worst end-preposition trap of them all in the middle there, though! "But we all also have things [up] with which we simply will not fucking put."...Off I shall now fuck

Middleton Road, on C27 , sees 75%+ movement by two wheelers with very low traffic levels, as you can see in the data. Is there any appetite for pushing the envelope among Cllrs and officers in @hackneycouncil.bsky.social , @sarahwoodberrydown.bsky.social ?

This is the profile of Middleton Road in Hackney - ideal candidate, IMHO

The Welsh 20mph default reduced casualties by 25% and insurance costs by ยฃ90m. If done in England expect reductions of 15,000 casualties pa and insurance by ยฃ2bn pa. Implementation cost would be approx ยฃ0.5bn. For comparison, 1st yr depreciation on new cars registered in England in 2024 was ยฃ78bn

There's a great candidate in Hackney
, on C27 and in the London fields LTN, on which approaching 80% of movement is cycles, and traffic volumes are very low.
