once upon a time I had very strong opinions about hypothetical imperatives.

also, as soon as that kid showed up on screen, I was like, that is a dead kid. same with the dog. absolutely zero chance they were going to survive the movie.
the Jade blow-up scene is much more effective I think.
SIRAT: I will say this about the movie: it is a very exciting watch. I was never bored. but to the extent that the movie wants to say something about the world today, I really don't think it's successful. it's all too insular for the last scene to feel anything other than perfunctory or unearned.

07.02.2026 18:46 β π 40 π 9 π¬ 1 π 2MINNEAPOLIS (AP) β Alberto CastaΓ±eda MondragΓ³n says his memory was so jumbled after a beating by immigration officers that he initially could not remember he had a daughter and still struggles to recall treasured moments like the night he taught her to dance. But the violence he endured last month in Minnesota while being detained is seared into his battered brain. He remembers Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pulling him from a friendβs car on Jan. 8 outside a St. Paul shopping center and throwing him to the ground, handcuffing him, then punching him and striking his head with a steel baton. He remembers being dragged into an SUV and taken to a detention facility, where he said he was beaten again. He also remembers the emergency room and the intense pain from eight skull fractures and five life-threatening brain hemorrhages.
ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man βpurposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.β
What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldnβt remember he had a daughter.

Liam has since been reunited with his hat and continues to wear it, even inside the house, his dad said Thursday. Asked how he might one day explain to Liam everything that has happened, Conejo said he would tell his son that he had become the face of hope and change.
