This one's a hard one. The premise - a child pleading for rescue - hits very different now.

The movie as a whole has a bit of a Don Bluth vibe to it, like "Mrs. Brisby and the Rats of NIMH": It's full of Weltschmerz and very grownup subjects, yes, but threaded with sincere hope and sparks of joy.

"The Adventures of Orville and Evinrude" would be great for short form vignettes or however you call them.
