Why does 25% AfD among young men spark a thousand "what is going on with young men?" posts yet Die Linke 34% among young women generates...nothing at all?

Yes, young men voting for the radical right is an important phenomenon. But so is young women going rad left *at even higher rates*.

Brilliant reporting from @jimrutenberg.bsky.social and @nytimes.com great read, and an example of when the rule of law actually held in the US!

Truly disturbing. He's always fully dressed and she's always utterly exposed. If it's supposed to be "performance art" why isn't his junk hanging out all over the paparazzi lenses too? It's more like straight up disrespectful misogynistic #coercivecontrol Thank you for making this important point.

This is amazing: it’s incredibly windy in the UK right now, so only about 10% of the National Grid is currently being powered by fossil fuels.

Brexit – an unwelcome truth Labour’s continued silence on Brexit might just reveal an unwelcome truth; another reason, perhaps, to use the Brexit telescope?

β€œThe economic cost of Brexit, reliably estimated at around 5% of GDP and with a total loss to government coffers by 2035 of over Β£300bn, is unlikely to be offset by attempting to β€˜make Brexit work’ – a slogan which rather confirms that it hasn’t”

More Brexit benefits rolling down from the sunlit uplands. We may soon have to boil our drinking water because the water safety testing labs in UK have all shut down because Brexit made them financially untenable. Another Tory clusterf&ck coming to light

The deep goal of bluesky is to decentralize the social internet so that every individual controls their experience of it rather than having it be controlled by 5 random billionaires. Everyone thinks they signed up for a demuskified twitter...we actually signed an exciting and bizarre experiment.

⏱️ TLDR: Drs working with AI made more diagnostic errors than AI working alone, due to a condition called "algorithmic aversion". The Drs rejected machine insights that challenged their expertise. The study suggests medical professionals need both better AI training and a dose of humility.

❓ Have you heard of "algorithmic aversion"? Do you suffer from it?

🀨 I heard about it this week in a convo explaining the reasons why Chat-GPT outperformed doctors in a recent study.

πŸ‘‰ here's a link to my blog explaining what it is: bit.ly/4fNVYpe

πŸ€” Do you think you might suffer from it?

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants said they had housing. Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Why Democracy Is Mathematically Impossible
YouTube video by Veritasium Why Democracy Is Mathematically Impossible

Moving past the headline, here is a really nice video on the pros and cons of collective decision-making systems. Spoiler alert: it concludes that ALL rank-based and first-past-the-post systems have serious flaws and systems based on approval ratings may work much better. youtu.be/qf7ws2DF-zk?...

I feel like not enough people know that Elon Musk first became wealthy by being so awful at running a company that his own management team mutinied when he went on his honeymoon; his own board of directors then fired him; and his replacement then turned the company into PayPal.

NEW: Is Britain’s welfare too generous?

Most countries pay workers who lose their jobs more than half of their previous salaries.

In Britain, unemployment benefits are *12%* of the average wage

It was a 49% to 48% election.

Fascism won by a hair.

And it took Russian and MAGA bomb threats, a hoax regarding battleground-state police raids, an illegal Musk-funded lottery, $600M given to Trump by just 15 people, Netanyahu meddling in our politics, and Democrats staying home for it to happen.
