I also think that a lot of the harm of social media comes from the attempt to engage with a gigantic social context frame. People aren't built for that, it's why my strategy for "a bunch of people I don't know are mad at me and I don't agree and don't care about them" is "turn off notifications"

*shrug* I don't care to have an opinion on that when the fundamental premise strikes me as an unhelpful in fighting fascism or helping people find each other. It just doesn't strike me as useful, and when it comes to fascism, transgender, transsexual, it's all the same and illegitimate to a fascist.

Okay, finished reading it. I agree everyone should have access to transgender care. Cool, awesome. I don't see any reason to discuss the author or intention of the article at all, at least for me. But also, the premise is still one I don't think is useful at this point in time? What conversation?

I'm still reading the article and don't really have an interest in talking about it further, but I just right off the bat take issue with the argument at the core of it. Any society that is restricting medical transition will make the lives of those who do not need that as unbearable as it can, too.

I say that as someone who does need medication to survive, who has followed a modern version of the medical & legal transition path. My medicine is crucial to my survival, but even if it was not fascism would still threaten me living life as a transgender person. So why make the distinction at all?

I disagree with the revised version of the article people have been talking about. All else aside I disagree with the flow of "fascism threatens us, therefore we need to make a distinction between those who need medicine and those who do not". Fascism threatens all transgender people, period.

Yup, one of the happiest days of my life.

This might have been where I encountered the horror concept of "if another people think of the same thing, can they manifest it?" I don't remember. What I do remember is that that was one of the best horror experiences of my life, and likewise Marble Hornets was incredible.

I remember staying up way too late. I remember Googling #Slenderman and going "oh, okay, this was made up by some folks on Something Awful. Gotcha. Cool. Not real."

I remember reading entry after entry of that journal and being horrified. I remember being so scared, hiding under those covers.

The blog was not anything in the Marble Hornets Mythos, though I think I did watch some of that, that very night. The setup was that it was a blog about #Slenderman from the point of view of someone whose soldier brother had seen it in Iraq. Accompanied by the creepiest drawings you've seen.

So let's talk about the Operator / #Slenderman. My first interaction with the mythos was reading this blog on my laptop. I was a teen living in Queen Anne at the time. My room had a sliding glass door that opened to the outside of the condominium.

First episode of #MarbleHornets: Rosswood was INCREDIBLE. I'll keep spoilers out of this, but it's clear the team has evolved, but kept their tap on things. It is so hard to do "this film was all that was found, the persons involved are missing" opening work twice, but they're doing it.

That scene got me.

I figure at some point in some timelines of DNS Anastasia and Alexis both had some sort of interaction with chakat culture and Alexis openly embraces that and Anastasia secretly values it but it is very much something she just Does Not Talk About because she Feels It Makes Her Cringe or whatever.
