As a neat bit of trivia, I know the mdf repair is from 1980, because they sealed up a section of the Herald in the back of the mirror!

I'm guessing the mdf didn't quite fit the angle of the wood frame, so my grandad used the paper to fill the gap.

Does anyone know anything about old mirrors?

I have one (my great grandparents wedding gift!) that has an issue with the frame, so I've taken the c.1980 mdf backing off & found the original maker stamp.

Except this looks to be from 1926, and my dad says the wedding was earlier than that...

Auckland was once a food garden managed by Māori. That knowledge could shape the future. From the University of Auckland - Comment: Tāmaki Makaurau was built off the back of Māori growing and selling food. How can we look to the past for what lies ahead?

We think they were specifically after chargers, to make it easier to sell stolen ebikes.

Keep an eye out y'all!!

Hey Auckland bike folks...

Our work bike cage was broken into this morning. Luckily no bikes were stolen, but my bike charger is gone.

The thieves took a crowbar to the door to get it open, and their car plates don't match the car on CarJam.

No, turning up over an hour early won't get you a quicker appointment.

Does anyone else get sent pics of dead bugs at work?

Or is it just a museum thing?

Mabel the short-faced cat (maybe a Persian? I'm not sure). She is a long haired calico, with ginger, black and white splotches of colour in her fur. She looks slightly disgruntled at the standard of food being supplied, as she's not getting her wet food tonight!

In the end I wasn't happy with the cotton tape, so I ended up changing the tab design.

I used white elastic instead of the cotton, with velcro and fabric scraps on the ends. Visually this is much less busy, and the elastic was really great for ensuring a good fit of the cover.

Once I was happy with how the cover was sitting, I made white cotton tape tabs, with velcro, to attach the cover to the bike frame.

To make this I simply cut the paper template into three pieces - left side, right side and mudguard cover, then copied these onto the fabric. I also applied a bias tape around the edges, as hemming was an absolute faff!

Again, I've just pinned the fabric in place, using calico tabs.

Here's proper attempt #1, with some outdoor fabric I had left over from a cushion project. This fabric is waterproof, so rain just slides right off it, rather than soaking in.

The main issue with mockup #2 was that the fabric I was using had a weird stretch to it. So I decided to make a paper template instead.

This worked really well for getting a proper pattern around the rear rack, wheel lock and other fiddly bits. I just taped on extra paper where needed!

Mockup #1 didn't fit so well, mainly because I'd only made two side pieces for the cover, and not a middle strip for the mudguard.

Mockup #2 was more successful! Plus using the cotton strips as tabs meant I could more easily remove the cover, and tighten it where needed.

Here's the saga of my attempts at a skirt guard! First I tried a fabric mock-up, with a cord looped through holes in the fabric and around the bike frame to hold it in place.

This was ok-ish, but the fit wasn't right, and it took forever to remove or install the cover.

November benefits data is out. Will post more later.
It is important to understand the harm being done here.
We have added 50,000 people to working-age benefits in the last 18 months. It has typically taken us five fking years (and a housing market boom) to get back from that #NZPol.
