Lately, every day feels very much like a day without hope. Without proper narrative flow and structure and purpose. Everything is working to dismantle your soul, steal your hope and dim the light you carry.

I guess that’s the best thing about books- the reinforcement of the soul at which everything else tears. Some distant but true hope to ponder and cling to when reality grows desolate.

There’s no kindly old wizard coming down to your house, no secret passage to steal you to another world, no ancient prophecy intertwined with your life. There’s just another day of challenges coming for your soul, ready to grind away at it.

I think the particularly awful thing about the life of a reader is that when you hit a certain threshold of difficulty in life, the kind where -in every story- the character would be whisked away on some amazing journey of discovery, you are barred from that sort of experience.

Petition to see what an item looks like in the room before I waste all my socks on it. My bean will never get back those hours 😭

Wild that I can access Bluesky while camping out in the woods, but I can’t at my job.

Years ago, I hid a wad of cash somewhere I knew I’d forget it. Every now and then I think of a different spot I might have hidden it and check to no avail, in hopes that one day I would find the hidden cash.

Today, packing for a trip, I finally found it in a backpack I haven’t used since college. 🎉

Useful technology isn't something people are forced to use. This was one of the really interesting things I heard maybe a year ago from so many pundits. Things like "I'm trying to think of ways to use this so I become good at it." That's not how productivity tools are supposed to work.

While he was busy, I took the opportunity to reload my nerf gun and I shot him. As he looked down on me, I said “you put the thing that does the killing right between your teeth, but you still let it kill you.” And then I woke up.

I just had my first nerdfighteria adjacent dream.

For some reason I was in a nerf gun battle, and towards the end of it John Green was chasing me. My gun had run out of ammo, and so doing what I could, I threw a dart at John. He caught it in his mouth and laughed cruelly.

Forever knowing that if it was truly some amazing and useful tool they would never give it away for free or force it into every aspect of online existence.
