Huge irony in the medication being destroyed at the Swan Hills Waste Treatment Plant. It's a Klein-era white elephant that has cost Alberta taxpayers at least $1.6B and counting. Yet, many Albertas continue to believe conservative govts are better financial managers than any alternative party

Hey Alberta remember when the NDP faced budget challenges due to oil prices but still cut child poverty in half and kept building Calgary’s cancer centre at the Foothills? Not made a mess of lab services, suspended the Charter rights of teachers and had to dispose of milllions in off brand Tylenol.

I'm am Albertan. A solution to the Alberta separatists. Move to Texas. They have oil and farms and jobs - you'll feel right at home. If you don't want to be in Canada. Canada doesn't want you. Oh and take Smith with you. #abpoli

Can someone explain to me how it is remotely fair that 51% is the threshold for something as dire as a province separating from Canada? Shouldn't it require some sort of definitive majority? Seems ridiculous that a fraction over half could screw over the other half like that. #alberta

Dear university administrators, politicians of good will, and the general public, we need the field of religious studies more now than we have ever.

NEW: This week on Whatever This Is, the one word everyone missed from Carney’s speech.

Pluralism.

Pluralism isn’t weakness. It’s an economic super-weapon.

It’s how we survive while others burn down.

We refuse to live in a country that doesn't have room for everyone.

Exactly this. It is completely unhinged for them to act like they continue to have a mandate without holding a new election. Albertans did not knowingly elect a separatist party.

I don't want conservatives in power, but I really do want them to pick a reasonably competent leader just in case. Hopes dashed again.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford asking Alberta Premier Danielle Smith "to stand up and say enough is enough" to those leading Alberta's sovereignty movement as they meet with U.S. officials, saying you're either with Canada or not with Canada.

Nenshi Challenges UCP MLAs to Sign a Pro-Canada Pledge | The Tyee Danielle Smith has been flirting with separatists, Nenshi says. Will her party back Canada?

@djclimenhaga.bsky.social: Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi’s challenge this week to UCP MLAs to sign a letter saying they are proud Canadians and opponents of Alberta separatism and promise to make that known to voters is not bad. Not bad at all. #abpoli

This is a terrific piece of rhetorical construction that also happens to be a very good point. A lot of us have been heartened by the courage and integrity so many Minnesotans have shown over this past week, in the face of intimidation and spiteful violence.

If they are doing this to white people in broad daylight imagine what they are doing to non-white people in detention facilities.

A reminder that Bessent is supposed to be one of the more normal ones around Trump.

I would take this as a clear sign the WH is open to (or even keen on) interference in any AB election or referendum.

Just for reference. The latest polls in Alberta. As an Albertan myself,
I can tell you this is a minority that will not pass. We already had a petition to stay in Canada that reached almost 500k.
