Women’s contributions and men’s racism erased from history of Muir Woods National Monument An initiative to fill in historical gaps from the Muir Woods National Monument disappeared under pressure from the Trump administration.

SCOOP: The Trump Administration directed the Muir Woods National Monument to remove language it had added to its interpretative signs detailing women's contributions to the monument and the racist ideologies of some of its founders.

SCOTUS allows Trump admin to deport people to random countries with no notice Justice Sotomayor called the order a "gross ... abuse" of the court's authority. Also: Law Dork in the media.

"SCOTUS allows Trump admin to deport people to random countries with no notice"

Honestly still can't believe that I wrote this headline today, let alone that the U.S. Supreme Court's majority did so.

Nowhere in the world to run: The international law ripping children from their mothers The Hague Abduction Convention was meant to reunite mothers and children. Instead, it's often used by allegedly abusive fathers to tear them apart.

1/ As divorce rates soared in the late 1970s, there was a consensus, supported by limited data, that fathers who had lost custody of their children were kidnapping them and hiding them abroad, leaving mothers with no means of redress.

This story is horrifying. Scammers got people to pay thousands of dollars to hire a fake lawyer. To keep the scam going and keep the money flowing, the scammers also set up fake USCIS appointments, fake ICE check-ins, and fake court hearings.

Worse, they told one guy to skip his real court hearing.

There’s been an influx of big creators onto Bluesky, but there’s no direct way for them to monetize their work yet. Are you going to change that?

We’re giving them great traffic—and that can convert to money. One big thing is we don’t downrank links, so if you are a YouTube creator or you have a Patreon and you post those links on Bluesky, you’re getting higher link traffic, even with a smaller follower count. This is true of small creators and even news organizations. We’ve heard from large news organizations that Bluesky has better click-throughs and better subscription rates. [WIRED can vouch for this: The platform has become a top traffic driver and source of new subscribers.]

Can confirm @jay.bsky.team here: Bluesky has become a great driver of referral traffic. Not demoting link posts is huge, and the community of readers / responders here feels more thoughtful and engaged. X has become essentially worthless for the task

They’re crimes — so why do we keep calling them ‘porn’? When we use outdated terms like 'revenge porn,' we blur the line between consensual entertainment and abuse.

Small plea: as the Take It Down Act is being signed today, avoid using the word "porn" to characterize nonconsensual deepfakes or intimate images published without the subject's consent. 19thnews.org/2024/07/reve...
