It looks like DC is selling out Nats Park for the Bruce Springsteen “No Kings” tour finale. (Except for the irrationally priced “platinum tickets.”) He did not sell it out last time he was here. This is gonna be good.

‘Dean’ of DC crime beat on importance of local coverage: ‘People want to know what’s going on in their community’ - WTOP News With Wednesday’s announcement that the Washington Post laid off one-third of its staff, WTOP asked a former reporter about the importance of crime coverage.

With the cuts at the Post, had to talk w legendary @tomjackmanwp.bsky.social about the importance of covering local crime and courts. I chased his stories for years — nobody did it better. wtop.com/local/2026/0...

Jeff Bezos said this in Feb. 2019, when his words often gave us reassurance that he had everyone's back, even after several years of Trump I. What happened?

What an atrocious, disgusting act by Bezos, Will Lewis and Matt Murray. Crushed for all my friends and colleagues wrongly laid off today, sad for all Post readers who lose so much quality journalism.

“Unconscionable,” Jon thought as he found an email address online for the lead prosecutor, Joseph Dernbach, who was named in the story. Peering through metal-rimmed glasses, Jon opened Gmail on his computer monitor.

“Mr. Dernbach, don’t play Russian roulette with H’s life,” he wrote. “Err on the side of caution. There’s a reason the US government along with many other governments don’t recognise the Taliban. Apply principles of common sense and decency.”

That was it. In five minutes, Jon said, he finished the note, signed his first and last name, pressed send and hoped his plea would make a difference.

Five hours and one minute later, Jon was watching TV with his wife when an email popped up in his inbox. He noticed it on his phone.

“Google,” the message read, “has received legal process from a Law Enforcement authority compelling the release of information related to your Google Account.”

A retiree wrote this email to a DHS attorney. Within five hours, DHS demanded Google turn over records for his account.

A Kafkaesque form of domestic surveillance, intimidating Americans for lawful speech.

In case you’re wondering why Trump & his lackeys always lie about numbers, there is a perverse and effective logic behind it. Lying works for them. Watch Angela Lansbury explain it in my favorite scene from The Manchurian Candidate. Her resemblance to Susie Wiles makes it even better.
