By all accounts, Dubya was usually the smartest person in whatever room he walked into. The "aw shucks, I'm just some farm boy from Texas tripping over his words" schtick was usually just played up for TV, because it made him likeable and helped make him President ("you could grab a beer with him!")

It's how we were taught checks and balances worked in 7th grade social studies, it's so quaint! Imagine, a branch of government standing up for itself!

That said, we've been waiting for 10 years, so I'm not holding my breath :(

He only has power as long as he has the undying loyalty of 1/3 of the country.

You just gotta hope it's enough of a smoking gun and that it gets spread enough to snap people out of the alternate reality they've found themselves in, or help them develop some sense of shame.

Maybe this is what we need to fix the timeline

I'm genuinely really thankful Musk is constitutionally ineligible, because with his money, control of twitter, and dedicated group of fanboys he could probably make a serious run of it

Not really, it's been public knowledge for a while that they were friends, and most people who hate Trump have already made the connection in their heads.

Saying so publicly as a public figure, on the other hand, is different. Trump has demonstrated a strong willingness to sue people over nothing

Also, in the 70's and 80's there was a huge population collapse due to white flight. Not much need for new housing when half the existing stock is empty

Like, that happens with all of Trump's scandals. He'll do something mind bogglingly stupid or racist. It'll seemingly be the end of him. The spin machine does its work. He survives yet again.

The only time you could have successfully whipped votes for impeachment was on the night of January 6th

Genuinely, I think the biggest political blunder of the past few decades was letting people go home on the night of Jan 6 without impeachment articles drawn up and voted on right then and there. Instead, they gave Trump and Fox News the time to spin it to the public as no big deal

Thing is, the GOP got exactly the number of votes needed to end the shutdown, none of the caving members are up for reelection until '28, and the minority whip was one of the defectors

It suggests there being much broader support for the vote, they just picked the safest senators to absorb the heat

Also one of the votes to end the shutdown was Dick Durbin, who is literally the whip. It is his job to keep the caucus in line, and he joined the defectors!
