Tory MP criticised after demanding legally settled families be deported Katie Lam said move would make UK ‘culturally coherent’ and that a large number of people ‘need to go home’

Tory MP Katie Lam demands that legally settled families be deported.

Barely concealed racism as Tories copy Reform. What next - special badges and camps for minorities.

A line in political discourse has been crossed.

Will the next road to Auschwitz and Treblinka go through Clacton?

There is no need for a moral panic about the UK's welfare system.

Far from perfect but recent discourse is nuts

Spending is controlled, not spiralling

Worklessness is near record lows

Nigel Farage earns over £1m from 12 'second jobs' - check how much your MP earns The Reform UK leader's most lucrative second jobs include hosting on GB News, serving as a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion and recording videos for Cameo

Twelve Jobs Nigel has earned over £1 million in additional income since the general election.

To understand the scale of it, since the July 2024 election he's earned roughly £100k more as a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion than Starmer gets as PM.

Reform UK’s Danny Kruger is a liar, and is putting out dangerous language like this.

There’s no evidence supporting this.

Comments like this lead to at best division and at worst violence against Muslims.

Also notable that the reporter only notes 2 article 8 cases over 2 days in court. There are usually 3 or 4 cases listed each day so did the others not rely on this?
But helpful that she debunks the chicken nugget case…spoiler: it didn’t win!

Inside the courts where migrants appeal removal from Britain - amid clamour to leave ECHR Sky News has been to an immigration court appeal to see how the European Convention on Human Rights is being used in legal arguments by migrants to remain in Britain, amid calls for the UK to withdraw...

Conclusion: leaving the ECHR wouldn’t change things much in immigration cases (but doesn’t mention UK would lose all credibility if we did)

‘We are at our limit’: Gaza’s last hospitals overwhelmed as thousands flee south ‘Not enough of anything’, says surgeon, as Israel’s assault forces injured, sick and hungry people to leave Gaza City The few remaining hospitals and clinics in central and southern Gaza are being overwhelmed by a “tsunami” of injured and sick patients fleeing a new Israeli offensive in the north of the devastated territory, medics say. At both Nasser medical complex, in the southern city of Khan Younis, and field hospitals in al-Muwasi, the coastal “humanitarian zone” designated by Israel, staff are struggling to cope with large numbers of new arrivals forced out of Gaza City in the north of the devastated Palestinian territory. Shabana Mahmood accuses asylum seekers of making ‘vexatious, last-minute claims’ Home Office says it will review modern slavery laws to save PM’s ‘one in, one out’ returns deal with France

This is misinformation, pure and simple, from Shabana Mahmood. To grant the injunction the judge had to decide whether the claim was vexatious and he decided that it wasn't. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

I don’t understand the mass reporting of the right wing march in London today. 100k people? And?
Remember:
100k people were at Trans+Pride in July
500k were at the Palestine march in May
1m marched against Brexit in 2019
1m marched for Stop the War in 2003
1.5m were at London Pride in July

Leaving the ECHR won’t “Take Back Control” – it will hand your rights to politicians The myths are seductive, the reality is very different – without the ECHR your freedoms rest on whichever Home Secretary wakes up grumpy

🧵 Farage is whipping up anger against the ECHR with false claims (see thread).

As The Bear brilliantly writes: “The ECHR [is] the foundation that protects you from your own government.”

That's why leaving the ECHR would be a Really Bad Idea.

…could be made because of the Tories’ Illegal Migration Act which led to backlog no. 2. The new govt had to change that law to start making decisions. Decision-making for claims made since July ‘24 is much quicker. The court backlog is inherited but the answer should not be dismantling the courts!

One in five children in Gaza City malnourished, UN warns – Middle East crisis live Malnutrition has reached 21.5% in Gaza City, meaning around one in five young children are suffering from malnutrition, Unrwa has said Good morning and welcome to the Guardian’s Middle East live blog. Here’s an overview of the latest developments in the region: The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) warned that malnutrition in Gaza City has reached 21.5%, meaning about one in five young children are now malnourished. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) said earlier this week that almost 13,000 new admissions of children for acute malnutrition treatment were recorded in July 2025 across Gaza. Two more people were killed near aid distribution sites in Gaza, Al Jazeera reported, after the UN said the death toll near the humanitarian centres has risen to 1,760 since May. Foreign Ministers of 31 Arab and Islamic countries and the secretaries-general of the League of Arab States released a statement condemning the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s backing of the notion of a “Greater Israel”. Asked by i24News whether the prime minister “connects” with the vision of a Greater Israel, he said: “Very much.” The term is often used to describe biblical Israel, which includes parts of Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Syria. Responding to the remarks, the Arab and Islamic nations said the remarks amount to “a grave disregard” of international law and “a direct threat to Arab national security”. A special unit in Israel’s military was tasked with identifying reporters it could smear as undercover Hamas fighters, the Israeli-Palestinian outlet +972 Magazine reports. This comes after Israel claimed responsibility for prominent Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif, who it accused of leading a Hamas cell. The Israeli military claimed an air strike in southern Lebanon in the late hours of last night, saying it targeted sites run by Hezbollah. This comes after Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem accused Lebanon’s government of “handing” the country to Israel by pushing for the group’s disarmament, warning it would fight to keep its weapons. Israel’s far-right national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir published a video on Friday showing him confronting the most high-profile Palestinian detainee in Israeli custody in his prison cell. Marwan Barghouti, a leading member of the Palestinian Fatah party, has spent more than 20 years behind bars after being sentenced for his role in anti-Israeli attacks in the early 2000s. Shadow home secretary Chris Philp said of the decision: "It is astonishing that this Labour councillor, who was caught on video calling for throats to be slit, is let off scot-free, whereas Lucy Connolly got 31 months prison for posting something no worse."
Lucy Connolly, a childminder from Northampton, was jailed for inciting race hate after she posted online last year calling for "mass deportation now", adding "set fire to all the...hotels [housing asylum seekers]...for all I care", before continuing to say: "if that makes me racist, so be it".
Connolly previously admitted intending to stir up racial hatred. Mr Jones pleaded not guilty and had his case heard before a jury.

Mr Philp said: "The development of two-tier justice is becoming increasingly alarming.
"It cannot have been a question of uncertain evidence as the man was on video clearly calling for violence.
"The government must come forward with plans to ensure justice is handed out equally, regardless of the background or views of the perpetrator - but as far as I can see this Labour government seems to be quite happy with two-tier justice."
The leader of Reform UK and MP for Clacton, Nigel Farage, said the decision was "another outrageous example of two-tier justice".

When politicians spout nonsense based on fascistic imagined grievances & white supremacism - for that’s what complaints about 2-tier justice are here - it’s a choice whether to report it at all, & also a choice whether to do so without challenging them to explain just what they want the govt to do
