Don't feel like doing a repost that puts the murder video on the timeline yet again but do feel like repeating the point that the president just straight-up assassinated 11 people for supposedly doing something that wouldn't be a death-penalty crime if they were caught and convicted

It’s a lot harder to pull that off in teacher directed, step by step, product-focused projects. I do tons of little skill builders and demos with them, but their ideas are usually more varied and interesting than cookie cutter projects anyway.

(Sorry for the soapbox, you’re singing my song here lol) I also run a choice based class, where adjusting and pivoting is encouraged. I remember a fourth grader who tried to draw a cat and it didn’t turn out so she pivoted and made an alien space cat scene and was so excited about it.

The other thing that helps is my rule that if you tear up or crumple your paper over a mistake I won’t give you another one… that’s practice paper now! You can draw ten fish on it now and they can all be “bad” and that’s great, because that’s how you learn and get better.

I feel like the biggest thing I teach in art classes is persistence and acceptance. I ask the kids if anyone wanted to share something new they tried or something that was difficult or something they figured out. 5th grader says “I drew a cat, and the body was good, but the face was weird” and—

Seriously! My most successful “system” is throwing my keys sunglasses and ID in a little box of shit directly next to the front door as soon as I walk in, right before I collapse from exhaustion. That’s about the level I can maintain easily -_-

Also, I can know what date something is happening, I can tell you, I can interact with today’s date like ten times (feels like a new fact every time though), and somehow I fail to connect “event on X date” with “TODAY IS X DATE!!”
