Climate people, did the fossil fuel industry seed and propagate the idea that renewables (specifically batteries) require materials, which require mining, which is bad (so implicitly we should just run on fossil fuels forever)? It's just striking to me how devoutly people repeat it unexamined....

World’s oceans fail key health check as acidity crosses critical threshold for marine life Scientists call for renewed global effort to curb fossil fuels as seven of nine planetary boundaries now transgressed

The oceans are dying, just as happened in The Great Dying 250 million years ago

Only today it's happening much, much, faster

And do the world's governments and fossil fuel giants care?

Do they hell

Makes me think of who or how many can afford legal representation and how the people with a lot of money are far more likely to win a civil case. The court serves people with at least an extra 10-20k to pay in legal fees. Of course that scales up in ways like this… those with more power win.

So what’s the population density of Japan? I tried doing some math ( not my strong suit).maybe 338 people per 396 acres? Or 338 people per sq kilometer? In no way can I see how that works out well for wildlife.

I think any study that is based on a premise that agriculture is sustainable in the 50 year term, might get a nasty surprise soon.

Im saying I don’t see how agriculture can last much longer with biophysical limits. without industrial agriculture. If a number of people and animals, plants etc survive the goal would be biodiversity that could contribute to a functioning ecosystem. my baseline is no agriculture. No economic engine

I’d like to see the study and read it. From what I can tell it said that animals have the most impact. I won’t argue against that. It makes sense too, similar to bugs decomposing wood they create a lot of methane. We are imagining different worlds. Study talks about meeting targets…

How America’s prairie was nearly destroyed β€” and why it should be restored Β» Yale Climate Connections A new book traces the environmental collapse of a crucial ecosystem and how its return could fight climate change.

This article talks about how tilling the prairie ecosystem for agriculture in the USA is like adding 11 million cars to the road every year. Talks about bringing back the prairie and bison. I think there were 60 million bison before Europeans arrived?

My pigs can live on my pasture alone. They don’t need grain imported. I also don’t have enough to where they over graze. And with the carbon negative nuts they have very low emissions if any at all. Most studies are on industrial animal farming. I Dunno the answer for small scale high diversity.

Metastatic Modernity Launch | Do the Math I am excited to announce a new effort that will attempt to provide a crucial set of perspectives on modernity. It is to be a series of video shorts (5–10 minutes is my target) called Metastatic Modernity.

It’s false because it’s dependent on an omnicidal modernist civilization. Maybe you’d like to read some from Tom Murphy? Have you read overshoot by William Catton? Or the limits to growth?

I’m referring to a world where we stop annihilation of all life on earth through the use of fossil fuels. Yes the haber- Basch process. If we don’t use fossil fuels to feed humans. How will the crops get fertilized? Is it possible that in some circumstances working with animals could be lessdamaging

Our world in data makes a lot of assumptions in its data. It cherry picks information with the assumption we will keep a globalized, modernist economic system in perpetuity which is an unscientific and biased perception which denies we have exceeded the earths carrying capacity and created 6th massE
