I’m watching a lot of petty, mean-spirited haters dunking on Kid Rock on every platform and seriously you all rock.

I feel that the rules of curling are also much more straightforward and makes it easier and more enjoyable to watch.

I think they know that none of the names they throw out there are actually in it but they need to build the grossest permission structure in history to say β€œsee, it’s not just our guy that does that stuff”

We don’t treat our politicians as infallible idols and they really want us to, like they do

I feel like with how many cases of groups seeing laws pass, and simple saying nah we aren’t doing that, these folks aren’t really looking at the long term consequences of having laws and courts that are meaningless

I fear I’m not young enough, but just seems way too applicable here - based

I often think about new inventions and technologies in the context of the Fermi paradox and I look at something like AI and the impacts you are talking about on society and think to myself β€œis this the great filter?”

Suozzi says Democrats lost votes for supporting β€˜biological boys’ playing on girls’ sports teams The newly reelected Democratic member of Congress echoed a common Republican talking point that has been weaponized against transgender people across the country.

This guy sucks and he’s the poster boy for centrist corporate democrats who aren’t meeting the moment. Same guy who pulled this shit after Trump won;

Guaranteed this also going to be framed as β€œwell I know our guy murdered someone but LOOK AT THE RHETORIC”. They already started that shit as soon as this was reported trying to blame Democrats for β€œrhetoric” while they’re out violating everyone’s right and then pearl clutching over language

Corporation for Public Broadcasting to close after nearly 6 decades The move comes in the wake of Congress eliminating all federal funding for CPB, following prolonged political pressure from the Trump administration.

Cool legacy bro - way to fit the stereotype of uninformed chuds who didn’t learn any lessons from Sesame Street and NPR is too complicated and doesn’t feature enough screaming-till-they’re-red-in-the-face old white guys screaming about replacement theory - but remember β€œthey just want the news”

Oh wow β€œboth sides are at fault” - β€˜left wing politicians’ like Seth Moulton and Gavin Newsome think sacrificing some folks for their political ambitions is a solid electoral strategy whether it’s right or wrong there’s really no deeper meaning to it.

Also saw that memory mainstay Crucial is shutting down its retail sales so that Micron can focus on AI sales.

I thought the last time the cost of memory went through the roof there was a price fixing cabal uncovered? No such antitrust concerns with this DOJ though I’m sure.

screenshot of a post on facebook from Alex Lamoreaux, depicting two versions of the "same" photograph of a bobcat in front of a pine plantation, one labeled original game cam photo, one labeling AI processed

the markings have been altered on the AI photo, and the head changed and resized

text says:

Oh! A neat goose hybrid posted to β€˜What’s this Bird?’ but when you zoom in on the photos the bill details have been too manipulated by AI photo editing to be accurately assessed for which species may be involved.
Scroll on… A cool-looking Red-tailed Hawk that someone is wondering which subspecies it might be - right up my alley! But when you zoom in on the photos literally every feather group has been so heavily manipulated and altered by AI editing that it’s impossible to determine subspecies because the photo is essentially fake now; just a mashup of whatever AI thinks parts of a Red-tail should look like.
Scroll on… WOW! That’s a remarkable trail cam photo of a Bobcat! It almost looks like a painting!… but the head looks oddly small…. hmmmm. After some prodding the original photo is produced and sure enough it had been so heavily altered by AI β€˜post processing’ that the photo posted was essentially a digital mock-up with totally different proportions and fur markings. No longer the photo off the trail cam; it may as well have just been β€˜created’ by AI from scratch.
This stuff is killing me. My days on social media are becoming very limited. We can’t even trust simple, everyday photos of animals to be real. The wildlife community needs to quit editing with AI, and we need to start calling out photographers that are using it. Our reality is being destroyed all around us.

this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

Weird I recall reading literally 1 day ago about how the best course of action for the β€œdebt crisis” is going to be extreme austerity measures. Maybe let’s shut off the defense contractors for a bit and use the extra billions to pay down the debt instead?

White House Scraps Cash Payments for Delayed or Canceled Flights
