FOR THE RECORD: There have been rumors. Now I will clear it up and be as unambiguous as possible. The Magic: The Gathering release The Dark was 100% a commentary on the evils and hypocrisy of bigoted right wing Christians. Having gone through the idiotic satanic panic of the 80s and then listening to their moronic and unfounded pearl clutching arguments that MTG promoted "devil worship", I had had enough and decided to hold a mirror up to them. That is why White is represented as dangerous, dogmatic and unempathetic in the set. White in The Dark glorifies ignorance, mob mentality and violence against those who are different. The truth is that people who view themselves as virtuous and righteous can be as deadly and dangerous as any blood sacrificing devil cult when they forget the message of love that is supposed to be the foundation of their belief system. We can see that replaying today with MAGA. I also wanted to paint spooky stuff. Two birds, one stone. Now you know. If you go back and look at the white cards in The Dark it will become crystal clear what the meaning of the set is. The Dark was a reference to the dark ages, when the church had full control of the population, when wise women and folk healers were burned as witches, education was only for the very elite and anyone who spoke up or strayed from the herd was killed in horrific ways. Even today people are trying to bring those dark days back. I was shining a light on them with this set. That is one of the important roles art plays in society and I view games as an artform. Okay, this is adorable.

Alexandre MacIsaac (currently 11-2-0 @ #SpotlightSpiderMan) has a one-off copy of Poison Dart Frog in his sideboard.

Alex can't cast it, but the card is his deck mascot. Just a lil' guy hanging out in the sideboard, and apparently he does this for all of his decks.

Retro Frame Reprints were something I looked forward to every year and I'm sad that we'll see fewer of those treatments. At least the Dandan SL will have a few.

I'm still sad that we didn't get (Non-Foil) Retro Reprints of these (and several other) cards in Innistrad Remastered.

I followed you through your Peasant Cube, which was part of the motivation to finish my own Cube. I have been enjoying your other content including, but not limited to Pauper and the Podcast and it's nice to hear from someone who comes from a different background than myself.

As you may have heard Youtube is being AWFUL and Shuffle Up specifically is being HIT HARD by the their latest madness.

Came for Herald's Horn Podcast and stayed for the articles and Dandan (on top of the Podcast). I find that you are able to eloquently convey how I feel about aspects of Magic.

I don't think Baron Sengir has a tournament resume despite how iconic the card is.

Having recently built my own list, Dandan has become another outlet to focus on the parts of Magic that I enjoy while offering an easy way to get people to play games of Magic.

Agreed. There may have been a timeline where they brought back the Daybound/Nightbound mechanic instead and I'm glad we dodged it.

A bit late, but I'm absolutely gushing about these reprints (they also chose my favorite art for Chart a Course!) from the Dandan Secret Lair. Looking forward to picking these up for my Dandan list and for Cube.

I feel like the biggest parallel for what’s happening with Magic is LEGO. In the 90’s LEGO was entirely original themes but in 1999 the company announced a partnership with Lucasfilm and it paid off big. LEGO is dominated by licenses today and is doing better than ever. 🧵

Regardless, I'm looking forward to Lorwyn (which looks amazing so far), Strixhaven, and cautiously optimistic about Reality Fracture.

With so many sets coming out next year, I wish there was still room for a Remastered set with Retro frame reprints. The most I can look forward to are surprise Secret Lairs even if it's unlikely to happen.
