I just finished Douglas Adams: The Ends of the Earth - it explores his philosophy, writing and influences using clips of his audio archives interviews with his friends. Particularly enjoyed learning more about his conservation work. Audio book only - highly recommend.

That's an unlawful order, and the survival of the Republic depends upon the Generals knowing that and acting accordingly.

This is just punishment theatre. Pointlessly painful. Well. The pain is the point.

The thing is, if they wanted to accurately reflect what immigrants coming here on work visas look like, they would be showing pictures of people queuing up at the airport. But then migrants would look so... normal. They'd look exactly like everyone else. And we can't have that, can we?

I think the contrast between our assumptions of a "witch" and our mental image of a "wizard" are telling. Witch = folk power, absent wealth or priviledge. Cauldrons, broomsticks. Wizard = institutional power. Books. Velvet robes. Towers.

Witches are women claiming power despite the patriarchy.

This is insane. Apart from being unconstitutional and oppressive, this is just a horrible waste of military time. There is no situation happening in DC, or Chicago, or Portland, or anywhere in America that requires a military occupation. Just people going about their lives.

Ohhh… I like the sound of Rubicon. I’m very picky about series these days as my TBR is out of control and I’m trying to read widely across authors. But will take a look!

I struggle with military SF as my brain just slips away during fight scenes, but I enjoy stories about power and morality.

If you like Space Opera, I assume you've read the Murderbot books by Martha Wells? How about The Principle of Moments by Esmie Jikiema-Pearson? Both are recent best sellers in the genre.

I admit though I don't know much about Military SF myself - what do you love about those books?
