Reclaiming urban spaces from cars, as Paris has done over the last ten years, is climate action - both mitigation (fewer emissions from fewer miles driven and more miles on public/active transit) and adaptation (less asphalt and urban heat island effect, more parks, trees and shade).

Frailty in ageing populations worsened by air pollution, global review finds Coauthor of research says condition linked to heightened vulnerability and loss of independence – but is reversible

Air pollution is a global crisis and it's hitting our ageing population. This week London achieved a major milestone meeting its clean air target 184 years earlier than predicted.

The impact on vulnerable people shows why our work is so vital.

Oxford Street pedestrianisation boosts sales, survey finds Oxford Street was closed to traffic for eight hours on Sunday 21st September in a pilot test to fully pedestrianise the high street.

These new figures prove that when people are put at the heart of Oxford Street, the area thrives and businesses benefit.

That’s why I am moving forward with the next stage of my proposals to pedestrianise Oxford Street and revitalise the area as quickly as I can. www.cityam.com/oxford-stree...

Every Birmingham road where new speed cameras are being switched on The cameras will form part of a fresh speeding crackdown by city council bosses which will also see speed limits on a number of roads cut to 30mph

Finally some action! B’ham residents have been pleading for speed reduction measures for years - speeding blights our neighbourhoods. These new cameras and 30 mph limits are a step in the right direction towards making our streets safer and more liveable.

Nigel Farage Is a Racist

The media is refusing to state the most bleedingly obvious facts about a man whose entire career has been devoted to pursuing a racist political agenda

Nigel Farage is a racist. That is my honestly held opinion based on absolutely everything he has said and done since entering politics in the late nineties.

β€œThe second anyone suggests that a man whose entire political career has been devoted to attacking migrants and making discriminatory comments about non-white people, might be a racist, all hell breaks loose”

Enough. Farage is a racist menace. We must say so.

If this is true it’s disgraceful. Effectively decriminalising theft, empowering criminals and discouraging use of public transport.

Exactly. Those streets were never built for today’s traffic. With limited transport options and more cars per household, residents are the ones stuck with the noise, danger and congestion. They deserve safer, calmer streets.

Milan’s is still there, thankfully!
You’re absolutely right about Stoney Lane too - it’s always been a bit of a nightmare.

I love my cycle rides and hate to miss them, but getting there and back safely is always a challenge. It’s tragic that it feels that way, and it really shouldn’t.

The Ladypool Rd is one of Birmingham’s busiest and most vibrant streets. But poor parking, speeding and dangerous driving make it unsafe. Imagine what it could be with safe streets, space for people and thriving local business. Time to act - pedestrianisation must be on the table.
