Other than finally getting to do our twice already delayed yearly family trip this week, I think we'll be adding a new furry shelter friend as a family holiday present. We've always been a 2 dog house but after my GSD died a year ago we've only had the one rescue rescue. Time for another.

Setting up 3 ipads and 3 watches for 3 kids has been a bit of a nightmare filled day. I would love to fix all of the parental control experiences of the world. I could practically write a book about all the ways to do them better than any company does today.

I still have cassette tapes that were made for me in the early 90s. Nothing to play them on, but they still exist. lol

When you think of the word enshitification (or if this is the first time you've seen it) what is the first thought or example that comes to mind?

This may or may not be my new favorite word and one I end up using way too often these days.

It also helped that I leaned way into things that weren't completely mainstream yet and that earned me some notoriety in a few local academic circles as I'd introduce myself as a cyber anthropologist. Ala cyber-anthro.com (my sad and no longer updated blog that's 17 years old).

I went for my M.S. on a bit of a lark because I loved a design anthro undergrad class & 1 of my profs on my MS committee (which was a terminal degree @ my school) was in an adjacent PhD program. He suggested I apply & I ended up getting in & getting a fellowship. First 4 years were paid for.

It's why I don't send my kids to public school here. It was also fucking hard to find a non-religious private school deep the heart of the state. It takes up most of my paycheck, but fuck man - we are not religious for a reason and I see no reason to subject my kids to that if I can afford not to.

Finally caught covid for the first time after 4 years. Thankfully we reupped our vaccines last month. Just sucks because we had to cancel our fam trip plans for this weekend.

This is the second time our family trip has been sidelined this year. The first time was a hurricane….

I've never been medicated. One thing I do is walk and work to add physicality to my thinking. I came up with my 'ah ha' for my dissertation while walking around an army base at midnight and dictating into Evernote on my phone. YMMV, but it might be worth it if this works for you. <3
