Cars are phenomenally expensive, so we justify that expense by imagining that it will take care of every conceivable transportation need.

It’s like buying one pair of pants that you expect to wear while working at the office, playing soccer, swimming in a pool, dancing at a gala, going skiing, doing a gymnastics routine, and climbing a mountain.
