The main issue is that the best D&D products aren’t made by WotC. They’re made by Arcane Library, Necrotic Gnome, Goodman Games and others.
I’m introducing some young family members to D&D in a couple of weeks and using a WotC system wasn’t even on the short list.

Early November I ran a DCC funnel for colleagues (Hole in the Sky) and an XCC funnel for some online friends (XCrawl's Got Talent) both were a blast. Hoping to do level 1 sessions for both groups soon, though the DCC one likely has to wait until New Year.
