This is a tea light holder for day 12 #artadventcalendar

Hand-hooked art, hand-dyed wool flannel cut into 6/32-inch strips on linen foundation. A crimson-red-and-faded-red barn with white boards outlining the main door and hayloft door and a black roof dominates the image, with forest-green grass filling the foreground and a fluorescent-yellow field of blooming canola (aka rapeseed) stretching to the horizon behind the barn. A clear turquoise-and-pale-blue sky filled with swirls to represent the ever-present Prairie breezes fills the top of the artwork. The linen foundation fabric id visible around the hooking, as the edges were unfinished at the time of photography.

#ArtAdventCalendar day 5: 'Barn and Canola', May 2019, also designed and hooked by me as a beginner kit sample for Edmonton Rug Hooking Guild with dyeing by my mentor Laurie Wiles. Both these kits, and more created by Laurie, Cec Caswell, and other Canadian hookers, are sold at ERHG meetings.

A square panel of leaded stained glass in red and textured clear glass featuring red streamer lines and red confetti glass which seemed a good choice for a wedding gift. The panel is in a white frame with the leads waxed and polished to keep them silver. The panel stands on a white corner table with white walls behind so it adds a pop of colour to the room.

I always assumed stained glass needed light behind it but this is how the owner chose to display it to brighten up the corner of her room.

Fused glass ornament in shape of a light grey cloud which has three silver snowflakes. Below the cloud are three small round grey pieces of light grey glass with silver snowflake each. They are attached to the cloud with wires and it looks like snowflakes are falling out of clouds full of snowflakes. At least it should....🤣 Total width of the ornament is almost 4" or 10 cm and total height is 9cm or 3 1/2".

Appropriate for this snowy day in Canada

Work in progress, “Suki Q Wookiee”, started in Feb 2024. The bleached linen foundation fabric with sketched lines in black Sharpie ink is visible around the mostly hooked* form of a australian shepherd - beagle mix with big brown eyes who is sitting on a set of stairs and open-mouth smiling at the viewer. She has a red heart shaped dogtag, and her fur is hooked* predominantly in greys, purples, blues, and greens. *Rug hooking is a knotless rugmaking method in which fabric strips (in this case, wool flannel) are pulled up through an even-weave base to form a looped pile. It uses a hand-hook to produce the same running-loop-stitch as the related punch-needle method.

Life sized plastic human skull that has been altered and painted to look more realistic and aged. On top of the skull is a fake candle with wax dripping down the face. The fake wax pools in the right eye socket and drips down the face. The fake candle is lit up using an electronic candle. Skull is held up by my right hand.

Day 10. This sculpture was made in 2020. I had posted to social media as I wasn’t sure about it. Julie Rohr was in the hospital for treatment and saw it. She commented that it was great and that she saw “Beautiful Chaos”. I ended up gifting it to her and it spawned a series.

Pale Cat Orchid on Red by Katherine Kean is a floral still life that explores the many subtleties of hue found on pale, nearly white, Catasetum Orchid flowers.
