Sorry, "this" was referring to the PPE/VIP lane thing in the post just above.
Not spinnable (and AFAIK not spun) as the advantage of the governing party being Close to Business (which as you say, is a line that can be tried elsewhere)

I'm not seeing this. The Mail and Badenoch are both turning on Mone today. The original (obvs bad faith) excuse for the VIP lane that "we had to move fast to save lives" isn't a right-wing move, it's one anyone could make?

Sorry, not trying to be difficult but I just don't see "we're more venal!" in anyone's manifesto?

Yes. Not convinced there are naturally fewer arseholes on the left tbh. But maybe we need Data?

Why would left-thinking politicians be any harder to lobby than right-leaning? Different people, different pitch, same mechanisms.

Status quo is "access to pliable people in power" shurely?

NTT Global Data Centers Hemel Hempstead 3 - Data centre - Colo-X NTT Global Data Centers Hemel Hempstead 3 offers 20MW of customer IT load with enterprise colocation available from NTT, 4-20kW per rack.

I've visited places like this (near the famously exploding Buncefield oil depot) and they are kinda anonymous and low-key? Eerily quiet outside tbh.
Definitely low jobs/MW power draw, but I can think of a lot worse trad industrial neighbours to have

The truth about immigration Ageing societies seeking to preserve living standards will continue to rely on new arrivals โ€” but governments can be clearer about the trade-offs

An excellent, clear-eyed FT weekend essay by @stephenkb.bsky.social setting out the choices confronting governments on immigration: on.ft.com/3IxIcvo

...on the virtues of strategic planning or "free markets"?

And despite 40ish years of pro-market governing consensus, we still have a chunky state that intervenes broadly across the economy, so it feels like we recognise the limitations of markets implicitly already.

I guess I want to distinguish between a new "model" (dramatic!) and adjustments within existing models (banal!).

I think it would be a good idea to tax more to support better services, whether or not that restores pre-2009 trend growth.

That's a banal adjustment that doesn't imply any view...

Why should we expect to find any replacement?

Why wouldn't the answer be: you've had your long 20th century, from here on it's diminished/ing returns and better cake-cutting. Government's job is to moderate expectations, and stop pretending we can return to old trends?
