Hab meinen Collie gestern dabei erwischt, als er gebellt hat wie ein Irrer. Bin so schnell wie mâglich nach draußen. Hund liegt chillig im Schatten und kann nicht mal sehen, wen er anbellt.
Danke fΓΌr alte, schwerhΓΆrige Nachbarn.

Having this small spot on earth which makes it possible to enjoy the beauty of the small things nature has to offer, fills me with gratitude.

Not a lot of knitting happened lately due to a tennis arm combined with a serious lack of energy. But I'm finally getting back to it. 🧢

I would have killed it as a depressed Victorian lady for I, too, perpetually need a little lie down as respite from the horrors of the day

2/ especially considering how we value labour and the welfare of animals.

1/ Might be a language thing, but I am in no way telling you where you should set your priorities as an individual. I am just trying to argue, that quality includes much more than just the usability. And that we should reexamine our consumption of cheaper materials -

I get what you are trying to say and I don't want to minimise other people's struggles. Medical care for trans people is a necessity but yarn is not. If I can't afford ethically sourced yarn, I can't afford yarn, but that is just for me.

As a knitter and spinner I don't think that the supply is limited. Even here in Austria I can find a lot of farmers who are rather happy to get rid of their fleeces and there's quite a few yarn companies around. Guess it's more of a regional thing rather than an European thing?

17.03.2025 03:52 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

3/ In the end it comes down to what you personally value more - being able to buy more yarn for your pleasure, or buy less and also have small farmers an their sheep benefit from your consumption.

Sorry for the rant πŸ˜…

2/ kept in better conditions. Keeping a smaller herd in and treating them well costs a lot more compared to what you earn than keeping a huge amount of sheep and treating them badly or not caring as much for them.

16.03.2025 19:11 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

1/ I do think it comes down to how much more labour is involved with hand handdying smaller batches. Also the treatment of animals plays a factor. Of course merino yarn from Australia, where mulesing is still a common practice is going to be cheaper than the wool of sheep who are -
