I have a couple of books screenshot from the last list. It was fun to read and I think my days of clinging to the Old Ways are definitely numbered. 🤭

Not knowing what you’re doing already I found loading the tendon was easy to follow and made a lot of sense. I also find gently massaging the tendon makes a difference. Most take at least a year to improve. In general take the attributes which make you a great hiker and channel them into rehab. 👌

I was always very curious about Truk and Rabaul. This second book in the trilogy answers a lot of questions. I’m sure Target will too. Btw, I have been trying to upload a few book pics this week in reply to your last #histbookchat post but Bluesky doesn’t like me very much. I will keep trying. 😩

I’ve read ‘Keep The Men Alive’ and ‘Staff Wallah’ is on the TBR and part of my planned reading for next year too.

Gamble fills in the historical background behind Rabaul’s crucial role during the first year and a half of the Pacific War. After a brief synopsis of the invasion and the Lark Force story he focuses on the air war over Rabaul from January 1942 to April 1943, when Adm. Yamamato is shot down.

This #photofriday I am reading ‘Fortress Rabaul: The Battle for the Southwest Pacific, January 1942-April 1943’ by Bruce Gamble. This is the 2nd book in Gamble’s trilogy and focuses on the opening phase of the conflict when Rabaul served as a springboard for new Japanese offensives. #histbookchat /2

I was hoping to have found the 2/22nd Australian Infantry Battalion history ‘Little Hell’ (Lark Force) by now but unfortunately it’s still on The List. In the meantime I have enough on the shelves for a fairly decent look at the forces inc. infantry battalions, commando squadrons and coast watchers.

This #photofriday I am reading ‘Darkest Hour: The True Story of Lark Force at Rabaul’ by Bruce Gamble. This is a re-read for me and kicks off a new series looking at Lark, Sparrow and Gull Forces, inc. infantry battalions and other units in New Britain, New Ireland, Timor and Ambon. #histbookchat /2

This is where I leave the Broken Eighth and this series which was a fascinating, rewarding and memorable look at the Australian Armoured Corps history, the 4th Anti-Tank Regiment, the 2/3rd and 2/4th Machine Gun Battalions and the 2/15th and 2/14th Field Regiments. Lest we forget. #histbookchat

Funny that, in another life I used to do a lot of public speaking but having just read about the 2/14th’s Honour Guard to the victims of the Tol massacre, and those who died avenging them, I wouldn’t know where to start. Absolutely heartbreaking!

After discussions, the commanding officer directed that the 2/14th would insert a perpendicular ‘break’ in the colour patch in a vow it would be removed when their comrades were liberated and the Division reformed. Fate decreed otherwise.
