I'm just on social media to shout into the void, and prefer to curate a void that either politely ignores me or occasionally shouts back in reasonably polite conversation.

When the void's overall vibe becomes unpleasant? Time to find a new void to shout in.

It's better than most "elastic" yarns I've worked with. The stretch is on par with a really springy wool and it's plied well enough that it's not splitty and the spin doesn't get dragged down the working yarn while knitting. On the heavier side of fingering weight, with less sheen than wool.

Meanwhile, the next draw from the sock project grab bag is...a little corny.

The purplish multicolor is Maizy, an 82% corn fiber yarn. It's basically the corn version of bamboo cellulose with added stretch nylon, but hey! Discontinued corn yarn!

The point is that after ~20 years, you also get A HUMAN. Capable of love and whimsy and art and random acts of kindness that are fundamentally chaotic and illogical in a way that a machine could never truly understand.

And sometimes you also get weird defects like Altman who forgot the human part.

The angel food cakes I've bought at the grocery store all have a weird metallic aftertaste. You wouldn't think a box mix would be superior, but it really is! (The confetti probably helps...πŸ˜†)

Birthday cakes when I was growing up were box confetti angel food cakes with cool whip (or whipped cream), and I still miss a good confetti angel food cake.

The fact that it was simple/easy isn't what makes the memory.

I still think about the shelter that named a kitten "Certified Forklift Driver" and a dog "Dave Matthews Band Chicago River Incident".

I would have kept both of those names, πŸ’―

I have the full transcript of the comics pages on my site! The one in my site has a more a prosey-description, but just for bluesky summary purposes: the first two pages of book one: the carpet merchant, we open to the Blue Mosque and the bazaar/market suburb of Istanbul: where the main characters live.

The opening illustration for Volume One: A Fragment of a Turkish Tale, which was originally the cover for its English and French print edition. Zeynel is seated with a Quran in his arm, while he holds Ayse's hand on his shoulder. The BG is stylised; large expanses of black trees and bushes filled with gold Ottoman floral embroidery, in front of a red star-filled sky. A bat and a nightingale are in flight around the title.

We start with Zeynel in the middle of tempting a client with magnificent carpet wares, and with me contending with the fact that I'd be drawing so many elaborate patterns.

And here we see the problems inherent in having an easily accessible yarn stash...the siren song of "Now I'm curious, surely one round of stitches couldn't hurt? Just to see how it works?" 🀣

I'm on the fence about all-over brioche, and some of the 2-color brioche I've seen seems interesting but I don't know if I'd want a full project. That said, my coworker has knit a Current Mood shawl and it has brioche accents that are really nice. Plus I'd learn a new technique!

It's on my very, very, *very* long list of things to try (along with brioche stitch), but like most crafty people I have more hobbies I want to do so than available free time! πŸ˜…

*Looks at yarn stash. And spinning bins. And cross stitch projects. And bookshelves.*

...Having just checked my phone's blocked spam list, I owe it an apology. There's at least 5 conservative political texts blocked for each one that's making it through. It's doing its best!

Why is it *only* the Republican/conservative politicians that keep texting me, someone who is VERY opposed to their policies on almost everything and also not eligible to vote in any US election?

(Also, why can't these all go directly to spam/block? They're really easy to recognize...)

I am not practiced enough at stranded color work for something that needs as much stretch as a sock.

Even with mosaic knitting I have to watch the tension on my floats. 😬

A process with no owner and no validation checks is just as feral as a stray animal, and just as likely to bite someone in the ass when they least expect it.

I need people to understand, in the bottom of their souls, that any system you declare *everybody* responsible for maintaining is a system that *nobody* is responsible for maintaining.

Any maintenance responsibility needs to be assigned to specific people, tracked, and audited to be effective.

Today is #RandomActsOfKindnessDay This poem filled with incredible imagery reminds us that to experience kindness in its fullest that we must be at our sorrowful emptiest

It is then that kindness will find us

If you are not empty let your kindness, find one who needs it ❀️

Yeah, once you switch out of work mode, all the momentum dies. On the other hand, 20-30 minutes right after you walk in the door is basically part of your commute and doesn't really register as "lost relaxation time".

Oh, and having ants made me very good at storing food/washing dishes promptly.

I've managed it when planning for a trip - 20 min cleaning every day in a different area gets everything manageable. Most effective if I do it *immediately* after getting home, before the relaxation kicks in.

Sure would be great if I could keep that up as a routine, but noooo... πŸ™„

I am broadly tidy (only small chaos piles in select areas), but while I know I feel better when my apartment is clean, it's at the bottom of my to do list. So the dust bunnies grow ever bigger.

That said, you can get a lot done in 20 minutes a day if you can build the habit.
