Using the recognition of Palestine as a threat to Israel is tone deaf and repugnant. The way the West treats everything about Palestine & Palestinians is _always_ through the lens of Israel - how about we just recognise a state, recognise a people, recognise and condemn injustice.

1) Ignore this thread if you don't want to hear about Ange, but I want to give props to @lilywhitelab.bsky.social's explanation on TEI of why he lost faith in Ange, and add a few thoughts about Spurs' direction and future. ...

Reporting Impact - Climate Changes Everything On a topic as pressing as the climate crisis, understanding the extent to which journalists are succeeding in our mission is fundamental.

Journalists, do you believe even small impacts from your reporting, like someone sharing a story or signing up for a newsletter, are worth cataloguing? You should. Every step is valuable. @tomt.social shares tips and resources in this #ClimateBlueprint chapter.

A lot of media are covering Europe’s heatwave πŸ”₯ but few are connecting it to the climate crisis.

Tools like the Climate Shift Index show this heatwave is up to 5x 😱 more likely because of climate change. That context matters.

Like English, Spanish is constantly evolving. Unlike some English speakers, we welcome that | MarΓa RamΓrez Purists’ attempts to police our global languages are doomed – there’s joy and inspiration in new expressions from all over the world, says journalist MarΓa RamΓrez

"Defending the uniqueness of a language or its links to a single territory often masks an underlying sense of superiority, a belief that one group’s way of speaking is somehow more legitimate or refined"

We want to be able to say stuff that other people, for institutional reasons, can’t say, or they’re too afraid to say.

You may be the only CEO in America making that promise.
We’re in a unique position, certainly. And other places have to learn from this β€” being afraid all the time and just constantly making transactional moves. How long can you survive like this? What is even the point of being alive if you’re just gonna continue managing rot? And it seems like that’s what 98 percent of people are doing in these media companies right now. I don’t know, take a chance. Nobody likes what’s happening. Especially if you’re a journalism company or a media company, you’re [meant to be] actually reflecting what people want or what people believe. So get some guts and do something interesting. It’s not that hard.

I had a REALLY lovely time talking to @milesklee.bsky.social at Rolling Stone about why The Onion is thriving.

It's because we're one of the only legacy outlets unafraid to accurately reflect the mood of this country.

That mood? Everyone fucking hates this.

The world isn't silent on Gaza - this is by far the most vocal I have seen the general public on a political issue in my lifetime. I have also never seen a bigger difference between the anger of the public and the inaction of specific institutions and governments. That's the crucial disconnect.

you can tell someone is disingenuous in their position if they tell you Spurs were almost relegated or were in any danger of relegation whatsoever

they clinched survival in like March after already giving up the league, if it were actually a question it wouldn't have been a question for much longer

08.06.2025 18:18 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

In his first season in the league, having sold the best player in the club’s history, we finished 5th and narrowly missed out on CL. In his second season amidst an absolute injury catastrophe we won a trophy and qualified for the CL. Literally what are we expecting another manager to achieve??

07.06.2025 16:16 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

4) as a thought experiment, what league position would it take for Ange to keep his job, assuming no silverware? I’d speculate anything above 7th and he’d still start next season

It is *wild* to me that a manager who took us to 5th last season and a European trophy this season is being cast aside.

07.06.2025 16:10 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

3) Given that the league was never therefore going to be a path to Europe, and relegation *was 100% not a risk* putting all eggs in Europa is the only logical strategy, as it simultaneously addressed two top-level priorities: Win something and get into Europe

07.06.2025 16:10 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think all this β€œ17th isn’t good enough” logic is pretty obviously flawed.

1) What would be a realistic target league finish going into last season? Pre-season I’d say average estimate was 6th

2) Factor in the injury problems we had and 6th looks wildly optimistic. Let’s say 10th

In a very real sense: β€œIt’s who we are mate.” Ange tried to change that and gets binned at the first opportunity. We are a ludicrous club.

I think the message this sends to future players and managers is utterly shambolic. And very curious to see how the Ange Out army respond to Thomas Frank leading us to 7th and exiting CL at league stage… how long before Frank Out? Rinse and repeat.

We, like all Tottenham Hotspur fans, spend our money and our time to support and watch our club play. I am seriously stepping away for a bit. The first man to dare and to actually do, sacked. What a fucking joke of a club.

Imo, Spurs can change managers all they want, but until Levy departs and the supporters stop their doom-and-gloom self-loathing, nothing will change.

People made fun of Klopp for saying #LFC supporters needed to change from doubters to believers before anything would improve. He was right.

Okay I'm gonna call it. Ange is staying.

When he comes back he'll do a presser and say, "Why did you think I was leaving? Did you all ask Pep if he was leaving? What about arteta? They won nothing! How about Emery? You guys slaughtered me for finishing 5th!"
