Disability Pride Month is here! Here is a surprisingly insightful article fromβ¦Good Housekeeping? On the origin, history, and meaning of our Pride flag.

Itβs Disability Pride Month.
Many people canβt understand why we would be proud of our disabilities because ableism is everywhere.
This month we celebrate disabled lives and push back on ableism & eugenics.
We are not less than
We are not expendable
We will keep fighting
The next time I see something about defining a woman, I'm going to end up deciding I'm non-binary, because not one definition has resonated with me.
07.06.2025 09:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Seen a big decline in my ability to support myself recently. Researching posture support cushions and aids, and reminded once again that being disabled is SO EXPENSIVE.
Just to sit on the sofa, is going to cost me minimum Β£50. If I got some options, it's way more.
But it's that or bed.
Thereβs been a lot going on in relation to trans peopleβs healthcare in the UK. Weβll give more of a run down next week but we want to make sure people understand whatβs going on.

Today, I am grateful for my garden, and a chair to recline in the shade on, and a husband who set up the chair and does the gardening I am not able to do any more.
12.04.2025 15:02 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I wonder how often we feel guilty about our failure to progress in our lives as Christians, when what we need to do is to let ourselves be fed - in prayer, in worship, in reading the Scriptures or books that might help us, or giving ourselves time to be silent before God? 2/2

The headline reads: βDowning Street considers U-turn on cuts to benefits for disabled people.β The subheading states: βControversial plans to cut personal independence payments (PIP) may be shelved after a tense cabinet meeting and backlash from Labour MPs.β The article is credited to Toby Helm, Political Editor, and James Tapper and is dated Saturday, 15 March 2025, 19:30 GMT. New βDowning Street considers U-turn on cuts to benefits for disabled peopleβ. Come on @uklabour.bsky.social: U-turn on not only the PIP freeze but the discriminatory suggested change to PIP criteria and disability elements of Universal Credit. We can and *want* to co-design better with you.

The amount of PIP going unclaimed by people who could claim it is about Β£1billion.
Why do you Tories always have to lie?
Also, a wealth tax like Spain has would raise tens of billions a year but the gov despise taxing the rich like they should.
Batman towering over you, snapping the wooden stock of a shotgun in half with his bare hands as he says "This is the weapon of the enemy. We do not need it. We will not use it." The shotgun is labeled - fragmented where it has been snapped in half - "AI (even if you're making fun of it)"

Government looking at cutting access to work support, making it harder to claim PIP, NHS reforms will make it more difficult to access treatment. By doing all of this disabled people will be even further away from employment. Cutting these many wonβt be able to continue in the job they have
When someone becomes disabled or chronically ill, people will twist themselves into knots finding a way to blame them. They need to find fault so they donβt have to face the randomness of life.
The truth is, anyone can become disabled at any time.
Good health is not a guarantee.
Both "Am I sick enough for this?" And "Am I really this sick?"

But we've settled on a more adjustable, more supportive chair. It can recline, lift the foot rests, and comes with a head support option.
This seemed to up the a list feeling - but also some imposter syndrome?
The internalised ableism reared its head again, leaving me feeling very ambivalent.
I want the freedom this will give me.
But it still feels like an admission of failure of some kind.
Bought my first wheelchair today.
I've been hiring them for occasions like trips away, so I can extend my days out. But the last two months I've found myself not going to regular activities and struggling to leave the house at all.
So it seemed the time had come to use one more often.

Disabled people are the experts in our bodies. We know what we can and canβt handle, and often understand our conditions better than most healthcare workers.
Respect our autonomy & donβt force us to put our baseline at risk. Let us be partners in our care.
