Another element: New data on protest activity shows organized anti-Trump actions are FOUR TIMES the size they were during his first term.

Much of it is undoubtedly resistance to violent, random actions, arrests + kidnappings by masked ICE goons (who I hope will all be put on trial).

Resistance.

I think we forget how much of the Washington consensus neoliberalism was aimed at undermining the kind of regime Trump wants to build. OK it very much didn’t work (eg Russia), but it was pretty overtly intended to undermine kleptocracy (eg Indonesia).

Please, please, stop calling these guys neoliberals. The are β€œwestern” chauvinist and white supremacists; anti liberal.

... hooooly shit. I don't want to ever again have to think about how loveless that marriage was because this just gets ever more mind-bogglingly hollow at each turn. I'm actually starting to feel sad for the guy.

For the record, Oren Cass is simply not an economist. He does not have the training. He has never practiced. β€œChief Economist” is a deliberately deceptive title.

The exercise the other day has me interested in finding data on party members / partisan registration figures over time, for all identifiable parties. Wasn't able to find much anything usable though, even for just R and D, except for the very recent

Relative to total voters in the 2024 general election, it's 0.06%.

I looked at numbers relative to total population a few days ago. It's 0.03% of the 2020 census count.

In my old job, my first conversation with any new intern always informed them that Elektrek and Clean Technica were outright banned and I would never approve any research that cited articles from those sources.

tl;dr:

Tesla wanted to use a design that was too large to be structurally sound. Fired the supplier who told them no, the design must be redone; repeat hiring/firing a few times; buy a Grand Rapids stamping company to try to force them to proceed as-designed, eventually relent and redo the design

I once saw the metal stain diagrams for the large stampings for the (early production) Model 3. After describing them to a mechanical engineer and having my initial understanding fact checked, I spent months asking people I know to never so much as get in one of them.

If ICE gets even one of these facilities fully up and running, it’ll immediately be the second-largest jail in the country behind only Rikers Island.

Didn't find anything with a longer time horizon than this PEW set. Generally found nothing on actual party membership earlier than the 00s, and then still not for small parties.

This was your set divided by nearest census, with population figures rounded to nearest thousand.

I am a bit surprised how difficult finding numbers for registered party members on a historical basis. Greatest detail I found earlier was identification data, not even registration counts.

FYI" There's a shelf life to filters and cartridges. Some of mine expired a year ago, others hit their date in another few months.

Pre-filters are extremely cheap compared to cartridges and can be used over a blank cartridge with a bracket.

Yeah, meant to extend useful life.

Top of my head - and so likely a bit off to be clear - some crowd control agents can be stopped by N95 alone, some require P100, some require acid gas or organic gas cartridges.

Presented figures as percent of population at nearest decennial census. Absolute peak just a smidge over a tenth of one percent.

0.02
0.12
0.05
0.04
0.02
0.03

After contextualizing these figures against the nearest decennial census population counts, I'm quite curious what those ratios would look like for other political parties and their membership counts.

It's probably a bad thing I knew the make and model number of that respirator just from the picture...

2020-2021 was a weird time, but maybe I shouldn't be surprised the random stuff that's ingrained.

Also, you might want to switch to using N95 prefilters over 60923 or 60926.
