If they go through with new purges and/or leaving federal workers missing a few paychecks, probably going to be a lot of strain on household finances around the DMV.

On the other hand, if ICE misses a month of pay, the financial strain and morale hit could meaningfully impact the extent of fuckery.

Isn't the whole reason shutdowns see a complete snapback when they end, for no lasting economic impact, is because backpay goes out and all activities resume?

I'm continously surprised there's seemingly never been an effort to systematically interview people who've transitioned about how hormone therapy specifically was experienced and what effects it had on thought processes, reactions, mood, etc.

There was an NPR interview in ~2001 about life as a trans person. Part immediately burned into my brain - the interviewee briefly mentioned how taking testosterone changed their impulses, thoughts, etc. It was a 1:1 description of how I experienced puberty and needed into my 20s to fully adjust to.

Management personalities as company identity or brand is a terrible idea, in all cases.

For a well-run company, customers/users/the public should not know who the CEO is nor should they and the c-suite interact.

As a side project, I assembled said estimates and created a preliminary SUR. Even the draft dramatically outperformed existing practice. The response, of course, was crickets. But make an interactive graph dashboard and people are mystified, entranced.

This is a highly segmented industry with almost completely different drivers across its segments. And only one entity globally has any data whatsoever in the segments.

Honestly, it tracks with my recent experience. It's been impossible to get anyone interested in such a basic thing as a proper model of the industry. Most colleagues and clients start and end at "industry revenue = X*GDP growth" (with a split between whether to use RGDP or NGDP, but same X).

I can't remember the exact phrasing, but it was a lament about policymakers no longer listening to economists and the private sector being disinterested; companies restructuring to place econ staff within and subservient to data analytics teams and so making predictable, avoidable mistakes.

That certainly adds context to comments from another panelist after an event last month. 😬

When I worked at a think tank, I used to get actively mad about how much of our funding boiled down to charging people for slightly repackaged BLS and BEA data.

I should clarify my "flying blind" comment given a lot of discussion has focused on the Fed. I intended that in reference to businesses and nonprofits.

In my experience, virtually all private sector economic and labor market data is benchmarked to or directly calculated from government data.
