I often see a lazy equation of Scotland and Wales as some sort of put upon anti-colonial Celtic fringe - but they are clearly very different. Wales voted for Brexit, and seems happier to embrace right wing English nationalism than left wing Welsh nationalism.

But Labour were *intent* on self destruction from 2015 on, before this rootless bullshit? Both parties were really quite normal until 2015. Both have been *spectacularly* batshit since then.

But they tore themselves apart with Corbyn long before this latest rootless bullshit. It’s like both parties got past the 2015 election and decided on total self immolation.

Whilst I can understand the Tories destroying themselves over their Brexit/EU obsession, it seems strange to watch Labour do the same over the last ten years. Has it just always just actually been that the post war settlement that they embody is passing, and they with it?

So the lesson I have taken is that we need to be able to find £200,000 *in addition* to our pensions when only one of me and my husband remains.

Since the NHS dropped my 96 yo mother and broke her arm, she has to pay £1,500 A WEEK for 24hr care. Thank god they saved everything for 35 years for this moment.

Doesn’t solve the problem that getting rid of cash ISAs turns off the cash tab for mortgage lenders though.

Think my preferred solution is to abolish cash ISAs, and force people into S&S ISAs (better for the investors) but give some sort of additional incentive in S&S ISAs for UK equities investments.

There is also the elephant in the room that it’s perfectly easy to mimic a cash ISA in a S&S ISA just by investing in money market funds, and I don’t see how you could really prevent this.

Broadly I see very little argument for people getting a huge tax break for investing in cash ISAs (don’t think other countries do this) - and it’s not helpful either to the economy or people investing in them usually.

That assumes that the only mechanism for them to invest in equities is actively managed funds: which patently isn’t the case. Passive funds increasingly have the lion’s share of the market: not to mention that people *could* (ill advisedly IMO) invest in individual stocks.

Ultimately though I’m not convinced that a two party system is where the electorate are any more: is it a natural state, or just kept on life support by FPTP?

It just needs to be *replaced* (along with council tax) with a Land Value Tax

It seems to me that it’s highly unlikely the government can compel any refund, other than by public shaming. One of the reasons of having procurement and due diligence processes is to understand whether you’re dealing with a reputable counter party or a disposable shell… oh.

Met my partner, got a book contract, found an audience, built a career, made countless friends, been endlessly delighted and educated by people smarter than myself. I'm not sure it makes up for the corrosion of democracy exactly, but I've personally had a pretty good time.

Also: the Right’s ideas don’t make any fucking money either.

As a chartered accountant and a CFO I can attest that what they do bears no relation to any business activity I recognise. Nor also to my English degree either, to be sure.
