Niger Buckles Under Relentless Jihadist Fire (Gift Article) In the West African nation of Niger, killings by insurgents have surged since the military seized power in a coup, expelled U.S. and European troops and stopped negotiations with Islamist groups.

🇳🇪 Civilian deaths in Niger have nearly doubled since the military took power in July 2023, compared with the 18 months that preceded it. And over the past six months, it has recorded the highest number of deaths among the AES countries — Burkina, Mali.
