I like but do not love those movies. I do LOVE the looney tunes-ass ending of Creep 1 though.

I feel like the Creep Tapes found the perfect format for this concept. Very excited for the new season.

A couple books I picked up at Recycle Bookstore. Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King, and Ed Wood: Nightmare of Ecstasy by Rudolph Grey.

Back home from our night in Napa. Made sure we passed through San Jose to stop at the incredible Recycle Bookstore.

Then stopped at a roadside stand in Gilroy (the garlic capital of the world) for some garlic ice cream. An odd experience at first but surprisingly delicious.

One of my college radio shows was a Japanese music show. Shonen Knife became one of our most played artists, with One Week pretty much becoming our theme song for awhile.

Terrific fun finally catching them in person.

If not my favorite concert of the year, it was definitely the most fun. Just pure joy from start to finish. Another one I can’t believe I got to see live.

I did alter my list a little because I wanted it to be representative of all my main genres. Still kind of failed a bit, but I had to get a surf group in there.

Suede stands in for all the 90s British bands I was big into.

I was honestly kind of hyped for this one when it came out. The writer gave some interviews where he clearly got what the assignment was and seemed very protective of the property. The effects looked amazing. But then the finished product was just… it’s fine.

I watched a video breakdown showing the ADI guys at the premiere talking about how proud they were of the work and complementing the CGI touchups. Post premiere interviews imply they hadn’t yet seen how fully their work had been erased.

Did you ever see any of the effects footage that ADI put out showing their work on The Thing? They shot everything practical but then in post the director or studio decided it needed to look more modern so they basically replaced the stuff with CGI.

I went into this so blind I didn’t know it was a creature feature. The blurb I read made me think it was a cultist movie with no supernatural elements. The first time a tentacle showed up I may have shouted ‘holy shit yes!’ out loud, alone in my living room.

Phantasm Oblivion. It’s kind of half a film, more build up to part 5 than a story on its own. But I do really love it.

It brings the dreamlike tone to the fore, using deleted scenes from 20 years earlier to emphasize the toll this has taken on our heroes, resulting in a pretty elegiac tone.

Yeah. My original skeet referred to the film as ‘Anthony Leroy’s Bum’ but then I was like ‘no, wait, I have UK mutuals.’

It’s not on shudder, I’m not sure if it’s ANYWHERE right now. It was part of a 24 hour horror stream that was showcasing some weird and rare films. It’s also where I saw Harvest Brood.

Secretcinematheque.com I think it’s still going for a few more films, but I’m tapped out for the night.

Still I would recommend. There’s really funny stuff, including a great turn by the director himself. Theres also amazing gore and effects and some truly great visuals.

I’ll watch it again when I’m a little less tired and quick to frustration. Also, @shudder.com, give Anthony Leroy a VHS segment!

There’s some really funny stuff in here but after awhile it just started to grate. Also I was confused by the films messaging: it’s a critique of our tendency to demonize and punish the homeless, but when we see homeless people they’re all baby stealing murderers, so what’s the film saying?

Caught another SOV found footage horror tonight; Bum (2025).

Saw people saying this is the best VHS segment not in a VHS movie, and that’s accurate. Maybe would have been better in that format. As it is, the film’s tone is so dialed up that I started to get tired by the half hour mark.

I rented this when I was 16, managed to sneak it past the clerk despite the ‘adults only’ sticker. Watched it while suffering the affects of some bad Mongolian beef.

It’s not the movies fault, but it was the last time I vomited for 17 years, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I started this one a bit late, and I almost turned it off for that reason. But something about the SOV look, the haunted tone, the grimy gore, instantly grabbed me. Glad I stuck with it.

Still a work in progress, the completed film should be available later this month. Worth hunting down!

This is THE movie. The movie that got me into horror movies after being too scared of them for my childhood. I love it so much. Got me into Barker’s books, wrote him a fan letter in the 90s (he replied, twice!).

There’s one thing I don’t like about that cut, but otherwise it’s such an improvement!
