Most EVs, especially the sporty ones, have liquid-cooled motors.

A Tesla Model S trimotor (fuck Elon Musk but that’s the example at hand) in Psycho Mode or whatever it’s called will whip the shit out of literally any serial production car, both off the line and in the quarter-mile.

That for sure! The car as a transit mode is an inefficient unsustainable nightmare, and aggressive expansion of rail infrastructure is the biggest solution.

However.

The US is still far-flung and there will be people who need car transport, so we should make it less harmful and inefficient.

The idea that we as a species shouldn’t be working to improve everything, or that EV proponents are against that, is so ridiculous that it’s hard to read it as anything but a myopic excuse forged in the middle of a panic attack about the possibility of change.

Non-sarcastic response: in the short term, is that better or worse than dooming THE ENTIRE SPECIES to water wars brought on by endless fossil-fuel emissions?

We can change the labor dynamic in the global south.

Sounds like EVs aren’t the solution to your failing infrastructure, a parallel problem which needs addressing no matter what you drive.

This is a systemic issue. Nothing is a magic bullet, but not changing anything dooms us all. This is the bill for decades of doing nothing. It is not optional.

Like, the entire list of things that are different on an EV compared to an ICE car is:
- the battery
- the charge controller, equivalent to an ICE ECU, which you already can’t fix
- the motors, which almost never fail and are easier to replace than rebuilding an ICE

This is a made-up problem.

You already own something you can’t repair yourself if your car was produced in the last decade, and the things you CAN repair on it are largely shared with an EV.

You can’t fix an ECU or a body control module, and I’m guessing you don’t rebuild your own engine much?

They want to use the tech that’s significantly slower and has worse throttle response? [they do, it’s insane]

“It damages the environment” is a completely different statement than “it damages the environment MORE,” which is the only thing that matters when we’re talking about /changing from an existing technology/, not /choosing one from scratch/.

Recycling is also a solvable problem.
Emissions are not.

It is cleaner, actually, even with fossil-fuel baseload power, and N O B O D Y is arguing for EVs and keeping coal.

Please stop talking until you’ve read up on the hard numbers; this is not a vibes-based subject, only the specifics matter.
