We’ve also heard from 10X Genomics, Ultima Genomics and Single Genomics. Now the eagerly awaited talk about Roche SBX (Nanopore expandomer) sequencing from Bernd Timmerman. Showing we’ve come a long way from the early days of NGS. I still have fond memories of 454.

First Evolving Technologies session from Illumina, Element, Oxford Nanopore and PacBio. Strong push to integrated multi-omic sequencing methods with genomics, transcriptomics, single cell, spatial and proteomics.

Great start to #GenomeScience25 with a fascinating history of Crick and then @minomatt.bsky.social describing the amazing application of #nanopore in brain tumor classification.
Now we have condensed updates from the tech companies.

Fabulous kick off talk at #GenomeScience25 from @matthewcobb.bsky.social discussing just a few of Francis Crick’s great conceptual leaps (and some less stellar moments) in the understanding of molecular biology and evolution as outlined in his new biography: get it on the Xmas list amzn.eu/d/fIPxARk

We also have to overcome risk-averse data governance challenges, and take a system-wide view of health economics to allow savings made by #genomics to be fed back to support its implementation.

But the potential benefits are massive. I support the vision and will try hard to help deliver it.

Not everything will deliver, and we need to reflect on priorities in an economically difficult climate. The #genomics itself is almost the easy part. To create the most clinical benefit, we will have to connect genomics with outcome data in national IT projects (to date, not our forte)

I strongly recommend reading Ewan's @ewanbirney.bsky.social summary of the state of play of #genomicmedicine in the UK and beyond. He beautifully summarises the achievements, the potential and the upcoming challenges. #NHS #genomics

We are looking for talented researcher to work on a project to detect gene fusions and driver mutations in a large cohort of children with ALL treated across multiple different trials to determine their clinical relevance.

I'm not against preventative screening, if done appropriately, but all this money for preemptive WGS at a time when our budget for #genomic testing patients *who actually have a disease* is being cut by 10%?
Explain that to me someone.
