Yesterday I ran into someone I hadn't seen for a while.

"James! Where have you been?"

I explained my recent diagnoses of Tourette Syndrome and had been taking time for myself to adapt.

"Oh man, sorry to hear that. But you know, everyone swears these days."

A teachable moment ensued.

The house sparrows adapted remarkably well to urban environments and spread rapidly across the continent, becoming one of the most successful invasive bird species in North America.

The house sparrow introductions were part of a broader 19th-century movement by acclimatization societies that sought to establish familiar European bird species in America, both for nostalgic reasons and because people believed these birds would help control agricultural pests.

House sparrows were first brought to the United States by Eugene Schieffelin and the Brooklyn Institute (now the Brooklyn Museum) in 1851. They imported eight pairs of house sparrows from England and released them in Brooklyn, New York. However, this initial introduction failed.

In my search for all things Tourette's related, I came across www.tourettes-action.org.uk based in Great Britain. Their landing page features an amazing video about what it's like to have Tourette's.

My days are pretty much like what is shown.

A few days ago I saw a video of people talking about what it's like having Tourettes. Things like "I get gut punched every day", etc.
