Hevea Project

Although it turns out that you can do it by introducing corrugations in the embedding, idk I never understood this but it looks awesome www.hevea-project.fr/ENPageToreDo...

When you try to place the flat torus in R^3, call that an embed fail

Same! I don’t do it frequently enough to be good at some of the more verbose clues. I have to imagine that the 20-25 of us who also love math are partial towards the more elegant clues πŸ˜€

One of my favorites is this one called Middle of the Road by Patrick Berry. It’s a cryptic grid + puzzle, woven together very masterfully.

I’ve been trying to get my partner into cryptics and as part of that we’re doing some easy themed/variety grids. This one was great nevillefogarty.wordpress.com/2019/06/01/c...

I just made this up tbh. Though doesn’t any set + a relation on the set form a poset as long as (1) all composite arrows exist and (2) you collapse things that are isomorphic?

Like if two definitions of convergence imply each other I bundle them up into the same object

The definitions of convergence form a poset in which pointwise convergence is a maximal element (pointwise convergence implies everything else, I imagine?)

Relying on LLMs when we have specialized tools for tasks... it's so lazy! The best AI applications are specialized models (eg drug discovery machine learning, handwriting recognition vision models for sorting the mail) used for specific tasks. LLMs are not generalists!

Python was awarded a funding grant, funding grant asked Python foundation to remove all diversity and inclusion initiatives they have.

Python foundation said no and rejected the grant.

If you use Python, send a few dollars to the charity to keep it going. I’m pushing a dono on behalf of ScamGuard.

Wait no this makes so much sense now. It starts with the 0 frequency term (which is useful because it's the integral of the signal) then increases in frequency modulo samples: So it's [0, 1, 2, 3, -3, -2, -1] if the signal has 7 samples, [0, 1, 2, +-3, -2, -1] for 6 samples!
