Microphone Marathon Some thoughts on recording my audiobook

A review (or recommendation? What are words?) of Molly House reading: 'Joy, acceptance and betrayal are the cornerstones of one of the smartest, warmest and at times most vicious board games ever designed. Set in the 'molly houses' of Georgian London where 'gay men' (my quotation marks) could discreetly meet, your molly cruises the arcades for companionship, throws wild parties and evades capture at the hands of moralising constables. In this unusually expressive title, there are nights out with new lovers and old friends, but the threat of public punishment, or even death, can spark bitter disputes with those selfsame companions. As both a strategy game and a slice of history, there's nothing like it.'

A review of Molly House reading 'In a better world, Molly House, designed by Jo Kelly and Cole Wehrle, might replace Monopoly as the ubiquitous household board game. The game has one to five players take on the roles of gender-defying 'Mollies' in Georgian London. Play cards to 'spark joy', seek safe havens for self-expression, or have a ball. Or become an informant for the Society for the Reformation of Manners. Molly House sends a powerful message on queer representation through its consummate gameplay and presentation (illustrations by Rachel Ford). At once historical and timely, few games this topical also managed to look so good' - Luis Aguasvivas, contributor

Really surreal to see Molly House included in both The Guardian's 30 best board games to play this Christmas and NPR's 50 best board games of 2025! What a year.

It is really cool to see how diverse NPR's selection of the best games of the year is. At an age where the situation for game makers has become insanely difficult, you can't argue with the breadth, depth and quality of games delivered to players remains incredible.

thank you Nicholas Quah for spelling out exactly what makes these interviews so inane. also, on SFV you're only ever catching 90 seconds of an exchange, TOPS -- so you end up with what are effectively disembodied soundbites, cut off from context. it stinks!
