21.11.2024 12:01 β π 13 π 8 π¬ 1 π 0Identity Verification is hard.
Identity Verification at scale is really hard.
I don't think this is a bad compromise.
It's a dramatic improvement over the other place .. where a blue tick mostly means "verified idiot".
Oh, ok, you mean using a misleading domain name to decieve people..
Not at all a new problem, let alone a blue sky problem.
I must be missing something obvious to you..
What do you mean by illegitimate here?
The user must be associated somehow with the domain to be able to use it.
The need for approval within an organisation is arguably a feature, not a bug.
Note it can be done by serving a file by HTTP rather than a DNS record .. and that likely works better for orgs with many users.
It's quite hard to insert a publically-available DNS record into an "invalid domain" .. whatever that is, and a TLS certificate proves nothing these days, unless it's an EV cert.
The need to serve a record from the domain does verify the user has some control of it.
Wow .. not seen one "in a while" .. one of these - IIRC actually given away unwanted at the end of a factory bankruptcy auction - was the inspiration behind one of my father's industrial control systems .. essentially similar enclosure, 286 (later 386) baby-AT, mono 9" CRT, FDD, 4x4 keypad & e-stop.

In case this is seen by anyone who recognises it .. yes, I discovered how&why that top pipe is routed wrongly.
Now fixed.
It's a new pipe replacing an old, long-ago-bodge-repaired, one - that had been tie-wrapped on the different route.
Also repair here is studs fitted in place of self-tap screws.
I am really quite impressed by a new ΜΆtΜΆoΜΆyΜΆ ΜΆ ΜΆ .. tool .. I mean tool .. definitely tool π..π
This is the Hikmicro Mini2 v2
It's a bit disgusting, but it works.
I may re-do this when the appropriate tools aren't 250 miles away.
But, for now, here has a working washing machine again. Yay!
This evening's challenge..
Replace this SMT IC using only this vintage Weller iron & failing eyesight.
Miele washing machine. Common fault.
My own bike is Halfords & not completely awful, but last I looked the kids bikes were still horrid.
Kids have outgrown that stuff now anyway, indeed I ought to try to sell on the Frogs as we approach Xmas.
Except Frog, other kids bikes are more cumbersome than adult bikes.
I suspect it's just very difficult to compete with Halfords et al flogging overpriced cheaply made crap.
This is sad.
My daughter had an Islabike a few years ago.
Excellent product.
A sad reminder that a good product often isn't enough .. and it'll be those pushing inferior goods who survive longer.

America also kills people.
Presuming this imbecile is American, he should be asked why he hadn't killed himself first.
Ha!
I've been doing similar from the outset purely on grounds of instinct anyway:
"holding one's breath within five seconds of passing a person, keeping a distance of at least 1 meter, and standing upwind of them are effective measures to prevent infection."
