You cannot simultaneously be mad that the Senate Dems caved when House Dems are holding the line and view Schumer as an effective leader, bc if he was an effective leader he would have kept his caucus in line, not helped them orchestrate this bullshit.

Feels like both is possible, but the past several minutes make the Jones regression feel more likely, unfortunately, as a Steelers fan.

I will never stop screaming that gerrymandering (and voter suppression tactics, which Texas *loves*) and voter apathy are pretty strongly connected. When you gerrymander and make it hard for ppl to vote, over time you make them believe their vote doesn't matter.

JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. ๐Ÿงต

I was gonna say, bluegrass has never been a cultural preserve for conservative values, and it still isn't. Loads of old and new music in the genre just eviscerating politicians and societal problems.

In the short time since Kavanaugh wrote that opinion, his assertions have been proved demonstrably, almost laughably false too many times to count. As Sherrilyn Ifill notes, the justiceโ€™s claims were already belied by the factual record in that case, which showed ICE agents violently harassing and detaining American citizens for extended periods simply because they are Latino. Now the agency, freed from constitutional restraints by SCOTUS, has stopped pretending to be engaged in anything other than racial profiling. Bovinoโ€™s admission only confirms what we already knew: These detentions, far from the โ€œbriefโ€ inconvenience Kavanaugh described, are often lengthy, violent, and dangerous. Ifill and Anil Kalhan, a professor of law at Drexel University, have proposed calling these detainments โ€œKavanaugh stops,โ€ a label thatโ€™s quickly catching on.

It's important to name the tools of authoritarianism so we can identify and condemn them with precision. I'm glad we now have a term for ICE's openly racist, degrading immigration arrests: Kavanaugh stops. slate.com/news-and-pol...

1/ Today Boston senior federal judge William Young has issued a clarion defense of the 1st Amendment rights of non-citizens which may go down as the most notable decision of his 47-year career. It begins with an unheard-of preface *above the caption* which reproduces a threat he received in chambers

A post on X by Mehdi Hasan (@mehdirhasan
) expresses frustration, asking how anyone can read a definition of fascism and not be alarmed, emphasizing that it is happening now. The post includes a quote from Cody Johnston (@drmistercody
) from one day ago, defining fascism as a form of political behavior marked by an obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victimhood, and compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity. The definition describes a mass-based party of nationalist militants working with traditional elites, abandoning democratic liberties, and pursuing redemptive violence for internal cleansing and external expansion without ethical or legal restraints.

2 minutes of searching and I found photos of protests outside events Thune hosted or attended in SD this year. Johnson was protested during a stop in Monroe, LA. Considering they both represent deep red areas, ANY protest is notable.

Thune and Johnson are refusing to have town halls and Johnson told all GOP reps to stop having them to avoid angry voters. Ppl are showing up to protest outside private events they're having in their districts and just outside their offices. Why claim this isn't happening when it's easy to disprove?

What part of "he left before the election" is not processing?

And what, exactly, would you him do from Yale that he can't do from Toronto? He is still speaking out just as loudly about the ass in the WH and everything else as he did before he moved, and likely doing more behind the scenes.

SNYDER: On leaving Yale I did not leave Yale because of Donald Trump, or because of Columbia, or because of threats to Yale โ€” but that would be a reasonable thing to do and that is a decision that people will make.

Who? Snyder? He's a well-respected scholar of authoritarism and democracy who had been pursued by the University of Toronto for years (along with his wife), and they were finally persuaded last year, for personal and family reasons. He's repeated said he is not running from Trump.
